Has anyone else been faced with this remark ..:

" your still a baby ! Your only 25 "

I keep facing older women asking my age and when i tell them 25 that is what they say ^ .

I understand im younger than them but im starting to really get fed up of the comment being made infront of my daughter ( age 3 ) i find it really disrespectful and degrading considering how much i have been through and i have had my own baby and raised her to be a really clever / friendly / loving little girl.

I do not want my daughter hearing someone calling her mum a baby , it will break the respect she has for me as her mother.

Please let me know your thoughts. Am i being petty or shall i actually prepare a come back for this comment lol

It depends if the person saying it is someone who cares about you and is being affectionate or if they are being demeaning and trying to dismiss any opinions, thoughts or ideas you may have.

You can of course stick up for yourself and retort -

'A baby? Give over Joan, I'm a mother to a three year old!'

It's just a saying and not intended to mean you are naive or stupid. They mean you are so young in comparison to them and have your whole life ahead of you.

Your child will grow up understanding the English language and knowing that words can mean different things in different contexts. They will learn that a spring chicken doesn't mean someone is a literal chicken, or that an old fart isn't... you get the idea.
