Sleep Regression - Advice Needed!

I have boy/girl twins who are now 8 months - my first children.

Both babies were sleeping through the night by 8 weeks most nights (10pm til 7ish) and I thought I had cracked it!

However around.8 weeks later (so almost 4 months of age), boy twin decided to start waking up at night but could easily settled with his dummy or a bit of reassurance. Annoying but not a major issue as I could fall asleep quickly afterwards and everyone (my mum, HV, my friends with kids etc) all reassured me that this would resolve and he would do back to sleeping through like his sister.

But this hasn't happened.... and just after 6 months, he is now waking every night but won't settle until he's had a bottle of milk. He is a slow feeder and takes ages to wind, so by the time I've done all this and he's back to sleep it's an hour and then I'm wide awake and unable to nod off. I end up staring at the clock til 6am and feel terrible in the morning as a result.

Again everyone told me it was a phase, and that it would last a week or resolve once he was eating 3 meals a day. Nope - he eats like a machine during the day and is having between 30 and 35oz of formula during the day as well and yet he is still waking for a bottle overnight. It can be anytime between 1am and 5am but typically around 3am seems to be the most common time.

I AM EXHAUSTED!

Any tips or helpful tricks to get him to stop?

He goes to bed with his sister at 7pm, last bottle is at 6.30pm and is 8oz which he drinks in full and dinner is normally between 5-6pm where he eats loads - tonight was cucumber sticks, sweet potato stew and then cherry yoghurt.

I am typing this while awake with my 9 month old as she won’t let me put her down since 12.
Have you tried to slowly reduce the amount of formula each night?
My baby was similar and found she wouldn’t have morning milk if fed through the night.
I slowly reduced by half an oz every few days and she eventually wasn’t bothered by it.

Howeer it didn’t stop the wake ups (I’m sorry I know that’s not what you will want to hear)
Can anyone take the twins for a few hours during the day so you can catch up on some sleep no housework just sleep?

So I haven't but I can try to reduce the amount of formula.

Most nights its between 5 and 7oz that he needs to be settled. I have tried pace feeding him this feed - so last night I gave him 3 oz, then waited and he didn't settle so gave him another 3oz which did settle him.

I'm on my own with the twins for the majority of the time as my family are a few hours away and my partner works away - he's back this evening so that's something to look forward to!

It's just so frustrating because he didn't need any feeds in the middle of the night since he was 8 weeks so to now be needing a decent amount of milk every night just feels like we have gone back to the newborn stage!

But I will try to measure out his feed and titrate it down slowly and see if that helps! Thanks x

Sounds like he's having a growth spurt if he's eating so much and wanting more milk.

So my HV said that initially and it should stop in about 1 to 2 weeks...

We have just past the 6 week point of him needing feeds overnight - can a growth spurt last that long?!?

They are usually 2 weeks. But with the way you say he's eating and drinking so much it really does sound like a spurt. Some kids do still need a bottle in the middle of night. My little one sleeps through mostly but he does still have nights where he wakes wanting a bottle. He's 2yrs3months old btw

If that’s his only wake up it may well be he is hungry but if he will resettle without and wake up ten minutes later you know he looking for food.

My girl is still in 4x 2 9oz bottles and 2 8oz bottles during the day and now three meals. My sister tells me she should have dropped a bottle by now but when I missed out her afternoon one she woke up at 12 midnight screeching and would not resettle guzzled milk and went to sleep.

it’s so hard to know and I wish they had a
crystal ball haha!
