SOS potty training advice

Posting on this board as potty training board is slow and need advice quickly...

DS is 2y5m and we are on day 3 of potty training. Prior to this we have been trying to introduce him to the potty so he is familiar, he is definitely ready and will sometimes ask to go to the potty. We are loosely following the oh crap method and day 1&2 were naked from the waste down. Day 1 we had 1 pee accident and 1 poo accident but everything else went in the potty. Day 2 everything went in the potty no accidents! The only thing is I went out to the gym and DH took over after he finished work, he bathed the kids and put a nappy on DS after the bath as it was 20 mins until bedtime (I had told him leave it off until right before going to bed but he didn't listen) as a result DS did a little poo in his nappy (I was so annoyed this happened as he was doing so well!)
Fast forward to day 3 and DS asked for trousers on so we are trying that. So far he went for a pee in the potty before putting trousers on and has had 1 pee accident. DS needs to get over the first hurdle of going for a pee with trousers on and once he has confidence he will relax (same pattern on day 1). Basically we have booked to go to an outdoor Christmas event tonight, it was expensive and we are not cancelling. I have older kids and tomorrow I will need to take DS on school runs etc as DH needs to go into the office and I will not have someone to tag in for the school runs. I don't have any other free time to train and DH will be about over the Christmas period so we can cement in the training.

Question- do I put training pants and trousers on tonight for the Christmas event? Or just trousers? I don't want to go back to nappies, I'm committed to no nappies during the day. Any other advice or suggestions?

Were on day 4 and have a similar issue. I'm going to use pull ups and not call them nappies, call them big girl pants or similar and keep taking her to the toilet anyway. Make it known its not a nappy, not for weeing in but is there as a back up.

I really don't want to put any sort of nappy on her as she's doing great - but I don't see another way around it without being house bound.

Plus - they are still young, potty training takes up to 6 months so a pull up for a few hours on day 4 i don't think will really ruin the training. It will be back to no nappies tomorrow day time.

I would do this but as we had been doing a gradual introduction to the potty I put pull ups on him months ago in the off chance he might go and I could quickly whip them down. That leaves us with training pants or not. With my older kid I trained much earlier at 22m and it took a good 6 weeks to embed and become entirely accident free (she was actually very good with only the odd accident, we actually were out and about in clothes from day 2). DS is doing great but it's a different kettle of fish with an older child that still needs a lot of input. I personally think just persevering with no nappy is the best way but it's how to navigate that when you can't stay at home like you said.

He's just been for a pee in the potty after prompting so has relaxed a little but is still unsure about pushing his joggers down (funny since he's been known to do it and run around laughing to entertain his older sister!!!) I guess just one extra step is a huge thing for them.

Most training pants hold a dribble, so would buy you a little time to get to a loo, but not more.

How often is he needing to go, and how big an issue would it be to find somewhere to change him if he had an accident? If not too often and changes wouldn't be too big a deal, I'd just take him in trousers and bring more spares than you think you'll need. If he's going a lot and you'll be in crowds of people a long way from any reasonable changing options, I'd put him in a pull-up but keep encouraging him to use the toilet as normal.

It's a walk around a country estate looking at Christmas lights affair so there will be toilets every so often. My plan is to take the potty with us and a few disposable cups incase he needs to go. As for changing it would be in a toilet if nearby or a quick out in the open change of clothes etc. He had a poo accident just before his nap but I actually think he didn't know it was coming as it was very loose and then he shouted "No! No! No!" (Poor little soul!) But it's actually helped I guess because instead of telling him to push his trousers down I've started saying "tell mummy" and he told me he needed a pee before going to bed (he didn't but he sat on the potty and so that's a win even in my eyes). I'm so nervous but I guess it's all part of the learning process...

Again any other advice and suggestions welcome!
