No you don’t need one. Babe stays in same room as you for first 6 months so no need.

We were loaned one by the NHS when DD was tiny due to an incident where we had difficulty rousing her (turns out she's just a deep sleeper) and it cause more anxiety than it solved.

Not to mention the frequent false alarms meant taking off her sleeping bag, opening her suit and vest to get at the sensor, resetting it and putting it all back together- which woke her a lot of the time.

My son was born extremely prem, we were told by the nurses/doctors in the nicu NOT to get one as they cause more anxiety than necessary.

You don't need one but honestly, mine has been an absolute godsend. We have the Owlet sock with the camera (you don't need the camera for it to work) and it's the best money I've spent.

I'm not reliant on it but I can see how it can heighten anxiety. It goes on every bed time and it's especially helpful when they're a little stuffy as you can see the oxygen readings in real time.

They're not for everyone but they're certainly for me. We've been using it since the newborn days and DS is 7 months old now. Never had one on our other children (they're teenagers now so it wasn't an option) but did have those under mattress movement monitors. This is way better.

I've also only ever had one false alarm and that was my fault with the placement of the sock. I've not experienced any other issues.

My youngest has to have a sats monitor and it's a PAIN IN THE BUTT. I absolutely hate it. His sats drop for a few seconds every now and then, and BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP we're all awake. (baby is fine, btw, everyone's sats drop now and again). And that's assuming it's in the right place and he hasn't knocked it off his foot again.

So no, not recommended.

I had one that goes under the sheet and we had quite a few false alarms as DD rolled a lot. She managed to sleep through what felt like an air raid siren. You don’t really need one, but I found it reassuring. DD was in her own room at 3 months though. I was going insane though because I stayed awake all night listening to her breathing and then couldn’t sleep during the day.

You don't need one but we had an owlet and it was really reassuring, we never got false alarms and used it for the whole first year. Would definitely use it again. Interestingly, the baby was ill once and we had to call an ambulance and the readings from the owlet perfectly matched the readings the paramedics took on their machines.
