I have a trial pack from the council and I've also bought 6 bum genius pocket nappies.

SO far, I've used four combinations of wraps and inners and I've had three leaks. ANd I've been changing between 2-3 hours (and this morning less than an hour and STILL a leak!)

I also think I've been putting them on tight as DS had really strong red marks round his legs and tummy twice.

I've definitely decided that I don't like poppers.

The bumgenius ones seem lovely so far though. SO there is hope yet.

Encourage me to keep going please!

(I keep thinking, if I use ONE reusable, that's ONE fewer diosposable going to landfill)

What are in the trial pack from your council and how old is you DS? It is just trial and error with different nappies at first but once you find a nappy that suits you realise it was worth trying (says she whose first cloth nappies were Kushies )

a whole mixture - tots bots, motherease, ella's house, can't remember the rest!

To be fair, I'm getting on quite well with the bum genius - they're a lot like disposables to put on and seem quite easy to wash. nice colours as well (is it wrong to choose a nappy on aesthetics?!)

Well, I think bumgenius are...genius . I had quite a lot of leaks with wraps.

well ditch the motherease nappies to start with, they are rubbish IME

I'd have another bash with the totsbots under a motherease wrap if you can bear it - they are the best I've tried.

BellaBear · 01/05/2008 11:04

He's 15 weeks

very runny poo and I change as soon as possible

think i might just get more bum genius, but they are quite pricey!

i find anything under a motherease wrap fab as they are pretty bomb proof - however, bumgenius rock my world and are just easy peasy if they suit... lol!

hettie · 05/05/2008 20:32

oh god I remember this phase- it's true it does all depend on little ones shape....
BUT I did find the mothersease rikki to be v good as a wrap as it had a deep shape and gussets. I got totbots bamboo and some natures babies bamboo ones (cotton ng hear as water hard and no tumble drier to soften). Then later some bumgenius which are fab- you do see them for sale second hand though as some peopel don't get on with them. Also have some wanderoos but they were only of use later.... IF bumgenius work though why not go with them size wise they should last as my lo is now 14 months and fine in them...

cheesesarnie · 05/05/2008 20:38

i agree anything under a motherease wrap worked great for us!i think you just have to keep trying out nappies till you find one that suits,i used to buy nappies second hand try them out if they didnt suit id sell then replace with a new sort till we worked out what was best for us.maybe theyre on too tight, that could be why theyre leaking?or could they be too small?

btw-poppers for toddlers can be a godsend

pinkyminky · 05/05/2008 20:49

Motherease nappies not absorbent enough, or snug enough, IME, though some love them.
I use totsbots non aplix with a nippa- the most adjustable nappy I've found!
With a motherease wrap over, I prefer the ones with poppers, but whatever suits. The new totsbots pul wraps are nice, softer than bummis etc. but have leg gussets.

But this is why you are doing the right thing and trying a selection, you will find the ones you like best. Don't give up- once you find the ones you like, you love them!(and not many people will say that of 'disposables')

Nappyzone · 05/05/2008 20:54

the new new tots wraps due out in a few weeks dont have gussets and are more like motherease on the bindings ......., the newer ones pinky mentions are better than the older ones (tis a confusing world of wraps) buti am hoping for great things from the new tots ones...........

pinkyminky · 05/05/2008 20:58

Ah Nappyzone, you are trying to tempt us..

TheHerdNerd · 05/05/2008 21:04

Wonderoos! We use them, and they've just FAB. Birth to potty, too - although we did get some leaks when dd was tiny. None for months now, though, cuz her chunky thighs block the leg holes.

Nappyzone · 05/05/2008 21:12

Noooooooooooo - i might try when the new flexi tots arrive as thats what they are designed to go with but for me i just love a good pocket lol !

As a mum to a 5 year old boy and recently an 8 week old girl I am in the process of researching Reusable Nappies, to try and find out exactly why many parents don't want to use Reusable Nappies. If anyone would be prepared to complete my questionnaire, please go to link:

Thank you in advance to anyone who does take the time to complete this survey!!

Have you tried adding a snap-in booster to the Motherease? I use these and one life's (and Tots Bots, Bumgenius, Fuzzi Bunz, Dizzy Diapers, Happy Heinys, terries, nature babies - well you name it, I probably use it lol!) and absolutely love Motherease, One Life's and Tots Bots under a Motherease wrap. How about padding things out a little with a muslin? My baby is 20 weeks and feeding very frequently still and therefore a heavy wetter and I don't have any leaking probs with the shaped nappies you mention. Keep going, reusables are absolutely wonderful .

BellaBear · 09/05/2008 19:46

just noticed this in active convos - fell off my posts i'm in before most replies!

really getting on with bumgenius, so think i'll get more. they're pretty much like disposables really, in fit and function and don't take much organisation to wash and refit
