Day Hotels for Exhausted Parents

I WFH and sometimes I have to find somewhere else to work for a day. It turns out that there are two websites which offer day rooms at regular brand-names hotels (like Hilton) and it's usually much cheaper than paying for an overnight. Plus you can have the room all day, instead of being hampered by check-in and check-out times, meaning that you wouldn't get a full day if you booked an overnight.

I don't have kids, but if I did, and I felt exhausted, and just wanted a day of rest by myself, I would book one of these. And if this wasn't acceptable to the tribe at home, I would make out that I'm spending the day doing Good Mum stuff, like Xmas shopping. Then I would go and have a truly marvellous day of relaxation being completely alone.

I just thought this might be a useful resource, after someone posted about how tired they were as a parent. The websites are dayuse and hotelsbyday. Obviously, availability is highly dependent on where you're from.

Hope this helps someone!

What are the websites?

What are the websites?

They're in the last few lines. Might have been buried because I don't want to type the full website, as then you get huge ads showing up in the message.

They're dayuse dot com and hotelsbyday dot com.

Good idea! Sometimes sending husband out with kids works too or getting a trip away with work.

I did this once and it was bliss! My DH is full time work from home and I have two young kids so am just never alone to fully relax. I took a days annual leave, booked a room and spent the day lounging in bed watching movies.

Nosleepformeeeeeee · 16/12/2024 08:11

You can book the holiday Inn for a day rate too....have escaped here when I've needed to disappear for the day!

I like going to a spa. I don’t pay for extra treatments but I like sitting by the pool reading my book

Websites: https://www.dayuse.co.uk/ and https://www.hotelsbyday.com/en (You can turn off the preview feature @UniqueOP )

I feel like these should be available on prescription! There was a thread only a few days ago about a mum who needed a full day's break, hope she sees this.

Yes, they should definitely be available on prescription!

Is it just me who would have assumed these exist for / are used by people having affairs or using prostitutes, rather than by exhausted parents?? (Which isn't to say it's not a fantastic idea for exhausted parents also!)

tribpot · 16/12/2024 15:54

Based on the pictures on the second website @NameChange1936 there is a strong implication 'these rooms are for shagging'. There's a picture of a woman performing acrobatics on a man on a bed, as one does.

I think the more legit use of them is for travel layovers, i.e. you've got 12 hours between flights and need somewhere to go to rest, shower, etc and it may not coincide very well with usual check in/check out times.

Yes, they often are. Some people do book hotel rooms for work purposes during the day if a meeting room isn’t suitable. But definitely these websites do attract a certain demographic. 😬

It's the first thing I thought of. That is exactly what they'll often be used for. Similar to hotels that allow you to book rooms by the hour.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 16/12/2024 18:45

We've used them multiple times for night shifts and met a lot of night shift workers using them too.

coxesorangepippin · 16/12/2024 19:06

Makes sense to me

NameChange1936 · 16/12/2024 20:29

@tribpot Wow 😳

Rude of them to use a photo of me and DH without permission 😂

Dramallama91 · 17/12/2024 04:05

Oooo I might do this as one last hurrah before I go back to work in Jan

Closest I've got is setting aside two hours to take the car for an MOT Which it turned out only took 30 minutes. I spent the rest of the time eating chippy chips and listening to my podcast instead of going back home to the chaos!

Decapitatedsausage · 17/12/2024 06:07

I used to do this a lot when I needed somewhere quiet to work. They are really common round airports. I did always feel I needed to elaborately explain I was working though so no one thought I was having a dodgy shagathon! (I probably made it SO much worse for myself!)

Nope, I assume that this is what they're actually for 😅

This is brilliant @Decapitatedsausage I can just imagine the 'I'm here to work, honest guv, I'm not an adulteress' reassurances went down a treat with the reception staff.
