My 3.5 year old playfully shouted 'I will kill you' to his best friend'

So my son's best friend came over (they're both the same age) with his parents. They absolutely love playing and it was fun having them over. However, about 30 minutes in, the boys were running around the living room while me and the parents chatted and then my son suddenly shouted, 'Im gonna kill you' but he was laughing his head off and so was his bestie. But I was shocked that he said this and I immediately looked at his parents who went wide eyed and I immediately apologised on my son's behalf. He never said it again but it was so freaking embarrassing to hear those words come out of my son's mouth. The rest of the day progressed smoothly with some normal and typical issues like not wanting to share toys, some pushing and not listening to directions.

My son obviously is too young to understand the concept of kill/death and that killing is associated with being harmful towards others but I most certainly do not want him to say that to anyone. I can tolerate it when he says things 'The spider will kill the monster!' when he is playing pretend with his toys but Im really not comfortable when he says that to actual people. Is there anyone here whose toddler has said these things before?

It's no big deal. Stop him watching adult TV as that's where I imagine he heard it from.

Normal

I wouldn’t sweat it … kids say bonkers embarrassing things all the time.

He's just a toddler. My toddler told his brother he was going to eat him just a few minutes ago.

My kids did say things like that because they were interested in goodies defeating baddies sort of content and would play it with friends.

The best you can do is to encourage alternative words like “I’m going to get you” which are the same but not quite as harsh sounding but you might struggle with this if his friends use “kill” in play.

Ha this reminds me of a playdate at our house when DD1, then 4, burst into the living room and announced proudly 'Sophie's dead!' Her mum and I kind of looked at each other and she said 'Er I'm just going to check ...'

(She wasn't dead)

It's just kids playing. I wouldn't think much of it.

Our 5 year old is exactly this year old. One of his classmates told him he is going to 'kill you all with a gemstone'

Our kid thinks this is the most exciting and transgressive thing ever. We've focused in hard on the science of gemstones and tried to relentless bore it out of him.

Are you sure that the parents weren’t reacting to the laughter? I obviously wasn’t there but sometimes kids can have a manic laugh
