does any1 else put a cot pillow in the cot so that the baby head isn't lower than there body and so they look comfy and don't look odd when asleep or is it just me lol i put it in there so his head isn't lower than his body and there isn't a massive gap behind his neck also is there any fleece wraps which are smaller when on to a tots bots red fleece wrap cos it is huge once it is on

no, don't use a pillow with a small baby - it can be dangerous. there's nothing really wrong with sleeping with legs in the air, and the gap behind his neck will be the same with or without a nappy, surely?

can't help on fleece wraps, i'm afraid (but actually, yes, they are wide) - could you maybe buy a size larger so the fleece band came above the nappy band, not on top of it? or use normal wraps at night?

I have never done this, though I do remember how the bum can be a bit higher on a very tiny baby in a large nappy!

Maybe it would work better to put a blanket/couple of folded heets tucked around the mattress under the top 'half' of the baby, so there is a small drop at the bum/legs end.

Don't know much about fleece wraps. I use a redwrap but it's my only one - I usually don't use fleece wraps. I find them quite bulky too, even on bigger babies/toddlers, and don't put it on my DD under slimmer fitting clothes. Can't advise on that one I'm afraid! Maybe try a different type of wrap unless you are set on using fleece?

I always used a tots bots natural cotton nappy and fleece wrap for night times. I didn't worry about the gap- it didn't seem to do any harm and pillows are dangerous for any young baby.

You can use the normal tots fleece wraps as they are not quite so bulky as a fleece wrap and you could try using a bamboozle as they are v absorbant and much more slimline. I used Motherease staydry boosters in all night nappies aswell.

I didn't like the bulkiness of night nappy + fleece wrap so I moved over to airflow wraps instead - they did the job just as well and we didn't have damp bedclothes and jarmies in the morning. The airflow is quite breatheable so it makes quite a good night nappy.

The ordinary tots wraps are thinner than the redwrap but still pretty bulky - alternatively you could try wool wraps. Not used wool myself but lots of people do and find it works well for them.

Never used a pillow - if I used anything I would make it a solid sheet folded up under a botom fitted sheet and nothing squashy like a pillow (to make sure the baby cannot suffocate)

Flame would give you good advice on the wraps - she is a mnet regular and has a thread in the "small business ads" topic.

Pillow not recommended until at least a year iirc. In fact my 4 year old still sleeps almost flat - we have a slim cushion with a pillowcase on it. They get used to sleeping with no pillow ime.

cheesesarnie · 30/04/2008 20:44

no!no pillow here either.ds looked funny sleeping at first with huge bum but slept so was fine!have you thought of using wool wraps instead of fleece?

NotABanana · 30/04/2008 20:45

You shouldn't use a pillow with a baby under one and even when they go into a bed they don't really need one.

babyjjbaby · 30/04/2008 20:48

ok where do i get a wool wrap and what is it sorry bu tnever looked at one

I dont use a pillow - thought you weren't meant to. I don't worry about the big bum effect - before disposibles, that was the norm and I don't think there is any evidence of it causing problems longer term. Maybe you could put a pillow under the mattress if you wanted to raise the head more - then no issues with suffocation etc?

Regarding fleece, I never did get on with it. I hated the smell on the PJs and even sheet as it sort of 'evaporated' out.
