White spots on toddler teeth

Hi mums,

I've noticed the past couple of days that my almost 3 year old, has a few white spots on his teeth. Dentist can only see him in about a months time, and i'm wondering if it's worth booking an emergency appointment over.

Can anyone tell me what this could be?

Have you googled?
says White spot lesions - sign of early tooth decay.

Can’t really tell in the picture but could be fluorosis? Are you using more than a pea sized amount of toothpaste and is he swallowing it?

we usually use a little under a pea sized amount

Mine were like that and it was because of the fluoride in the water and toothpaste

BananaPalm · 13/12/2024 15:27

Could it be mouth breathing? I get that when I'm congested and have to breathe through my mouth.

LlamaDrama20 · 13/12/2024 15:32

Where in the country are you (assuming it's UK)? Some areas have fluoride added to the water and it can cause white fluorosis spots.

My DD had that, the dentist said it was normal and would fade as she got older, which they have done

Idontevenknowmyname · 13/12/2024 16:08

Ds has this on his front two teeth. Dentist said it was either fluoride from the water (he didn’t swallow toothpaste so not that) or mouth breathing, which he does. It’s like the tooth dries out overnight and is more obvious in the morning then fades over the day. Anyway there was no decay or problems at all, apparently it’s quite common. His are adult teeth now and the dentist said they could do bleaching stuff when he’s fully grown if it was bothersome.

JingleB · 13/12/2024 16:11

It’s really common and tends to fade.

My younger sister had this, dentist said it was just calcium spots and would fade as she got older xx
