Reflux help

DD is currently 6 months old. They have always suffered with reflux. We've tried prescribed Gaviscon, comfort formula milk which both didn't make a difference. They are now crawling and eating solids which we were told would improve the reflux but no luck. Anyone have similar experiences and can offer advice?

Firstly, it is hell and it is a waiting game. We were told that once Ds1 was upright it would help and it was basically sorted overnight from when he started cruising furniture and was on his feet most of the time.

Then we had Ds2 who had severe reflux. He was on a prescription formula that stopped the screaming in pain but he still refluxed. He was very young when diagnosed so we were told by his paediatrician to let him have a dummy all the time to help him constantly swallow down. I was a sahm so he slept upright on me during the day, nappy changes and getting him dressed could not be done lay flat, he was permanently propped but he was a severe case. He had a propped cot too on proper blocks. I was at his beck and call because crying made him reflux.

I ended up buying a carpet cleaner to deal with all the spot cleaning of sicking up and cleaned the carpets every week when Dh did a bath and bed time. He still hasn't grown out of it and he is now 18 and at uni. I know that isn't what you want to hear but he just ate smaller portions all his life because getting too full meant he sicked up. He learned this himself and limited his food intake but consistently gained weight all the way through his childhood. Sometimes you have to accept that it is with them forever. I will reflux if I over fill my stomach too and I am 50. When we spoke to the paediatrician about that he said some valves are just weak and don't stay closed. I drank Gaviscon all the way through both pregnancies as it made my reflux bad.

It might make a difference once she is upright and cruising. It is hopefully a phase she will grow out of. I will tell you that having to take Ds to a children's hospital really shows how many sick children there are out there and I was honestly grateful it just reflux even though it was awful for us as parents.
