Baby bringing up milk several times after each feed

My 3 day old is bringing up milk as soon as she is laid down - it doesn’t matter if she hasn’t fed for two hours she will bring it up and she will bring it up 5/6 times. Nappies are fine, she wants to feed and it is otherwise well. I will of course speak to my midwife but has anyone experienced anything like this? Is it just reflux? She also seems upset when lying down but my last baby who didn’t have reflux just wanted to be held also!

Is she getting up wind OK? Sounds like it might be reflux.

This is what they do. Endlessly. I got some medicine for reflux that made the milk thick so it would stay down; didn’t work. My baby threw up for about 6 months straight. And she still got really fat. As long as the baby isn’t upset and is putting on weight, it’s probably ok. It’s really hard work though 😓

See your GP if you are worried.

Congratulations on your new LO Flowers

Is she a happy sicker or is she uncomfortable or distressed when she's doing it?

Yeah go see GP but it's probably nothing you can change - could try probiotics

How are you both tonight @Lalarara10?

My 7 week old is quite sicky like this, although doesn't sound quite as bad, and also is perfectly happy laying on their back. We found it got worse over the course of the first fortnight or so, then kinda plateaued and then over the last week or two seems to be a little improved. I did tell my midwife ages ago but as baby has been gaining weight well, breastfeeding well, sleeping fine and is generally pretty settled they were not concerned. We arent concerned either but the extra laundry from the multiple outfit changes a day is a pain, then there's our own clothes, bedding, sofa covers, whatever else he has vomited on that day! This is our third child and our first two hardly vomited so its taken us by surprise and as I say especially now as a family of 5, in winter in a modest 3 bed mid terrace with no dryer, we could def have done without all this extra laundry!

Thanks everyone for your replies - she’s been better throughout the day today and actually even last night got better once held up after feeds. Still brought up milk 1/2 times after each feed but seemed very settled and it didn’t even wake her up!

DC1 never ever spit up so just a bit of a shock to the system and going to have to stock up on muslins!!

Spoke to my midwife also who said it’s probably as my milk has come in and she’s an efficient guzzler so might be taking more than her tummy can handle!

If she's happy and gaining weight then it's probably just mild reflux which, if memory serves, is from the esophageal sphincter being a bit loose. Keep her upright for a bit after a feed so the milk has some time to settle.

If she cries or has any other symptoms, or the vomiting becomes heavier and more forceful, then it's an issue and you need to do more. For one of mine it was CMPA but it became quite clear that ti was more serious. My 3rd was just eating too much too fast, so slowing him down and keeping him upright did the trick.
