Hi Mums, looking for advice! My 17-month-old just tore some wallpaper off the wall and started sucking on it. Thankfully, I caught him before he actually ate it, but it had dried wallpaper paste on it. Should I be worried and call the hospital, or do you think he’ll be fine? Feeling a bit panicked—any advice would be great!

There can be fungicides in wallpaper paste and I guess all sorts of dyes in the paper, but I very much doubt the tiny amount he may have ingested would cause any harm and there are so many potentially dangerous things banned these days anyway. How old was the wallpaper? If it was very old (pre-war) I might be more concerned about what might be in it.

@custardpyjamas we put it up in February

I'd chalk this up to 'things toddlers do'. He'll be fine, and probably eat worse soon.

It will just be another ‘funny story’ told over family dinners once some time passes. He will be fine. If he vomits and doesn’t stop, then take to hospital. If he vomits it up and that’s that, then he’s fine. Xx

I’m sure he’ll be absolutely fine. At this age, I found my toddler licking the inside of the exhaust pipe on dh’s work van (sounds dodgy but it was securely parked and we were standing right there next to her). I’m sure it may have killed off a few brain cells and we had to give her face a good scrub to get all the black grime off, but she lived to tell the tale.

Thankyou lovelys for the reassurance, I'm a first time mum and toddlerhood is full of crazy adventures!
