4.5yo and night dryness

Hello you wise lot,

Just after some advice here. My 4.5yo DS has been toilet trained reliably in the day since he was 2 years 2 months old.

However, night time weeing is something he's just never cracked - despite being so reliable with very few accidents ever since such a young age.

We've tried a few times but just gone back to pull ups.

Now, the last week the pull up has suddenly started being dry in the morning - could this be the start of that nighttime hormone kicking in for him? I'm thinking I might stop with the pull up.

Has anyone else had this issue and found it's sort of self resolved?

Thank you

We took away DS's pull-ups after a few weeks of consistent dryness (aged 3 and a half). I suppose the issue for you is that you don't know whether he would wake up if he did need a wee. My DS did get up for a wee a couple of times (well, actually woke up and yelled for me to take him for a wee) before that so I was pretty confident he would wake if he needed one, but he never does need one any more so it hasn't been put to the test. You could take away the pull-up but use one of those peapod mats just in case there's an accident?

It’s hormonal and 4 is the average age to be dry at night so totally unconnected to when he trained in the day and whether or not he has accidents! A week if dry pull ups is exactly what you want to wait for- if he’s managing that then sounds like he’s reliably producing the hormone. So I reckon you can take them away. But still make sure you have a good waterproof mattress protector as the odd nighttime accident can still happen if they’re unusually tired, unwell, chugged 3 apple juices at dinner because Grandma kept ordering more etc. etc.
