Baby has purple hands and feet

DS is 7 months old, and often has purple hands and feet. I didn’t think anything of it, but took him to be weighed today and the health visitor commented on it. When I said they’re often like that she said I should get it checked out. Has anyone experienced this? There’s no history of Reynaulds in either family.

It indicates poor circulation and there could be many reasons for it including cardiac ones. I would book a GP appointment soon-ish.

Do you have a car seat type pram?
Don’t use them as they are not suitable for long as babies don’t get enough oxygen to their feet when they are scrunched up.
Keep a record of when and circumstances to see if there’s a pattern

My Daughter had this as a baby and toddler, they referred us to the children’s hospital for a heart scan - she was fine.
She’s 15 now and has developed reynauds but is otherwise fine.

No we hardly ever use the car seat on the pram as DS hates the car seat!

Mine was the exact same at this age, it’s improved slightly now she’s a little bit older (18 months) but still happens. I’ve been to the doctors many, many times and they’ve said it’s likely just acrocyanosis and nothing to worry about, and that we should only worry if her mouth goes blue/purple too.

I’m a bit worried now. He’s developing fine in terms of skills but I’ve posted before about him being tiny (he got weighed today and has only gained 3oz in a month). I’ll have to call the gp tomorrow!

It might be that he’s using up a lot of calories for something physical and so isn’t growing as quickly. Or maybe it’s nothing and he will always be a little petite. Either way just get it checked out.

My DD had this when younger, up to around 2 years. Often it happened when she had a bug or was fighting an infection.
GP said several times after check she was fine and down to a not yet fully formed circulation system in young children which meant particularly when fighting infection the body concentrates the blood away from extremities to fight it. She was absolutely fine and grew out of it. GP indicated it was quite common. Of course, get it checked but just to give some reassurance that it's likely ok.
