How long did it take toddler to forget about the dummy?

DD is 3 in a few weeks, we decided it was time for dummy fairy as her teeth look like they are starting to be affected.
She happily handed them over and received her presents and chocolates, and the first night actually wasn't too bad- a few tears then down. However it seems to be getting worse, not better! She was distraught and delayed her nap for ages wanting a dummy, wants me to go to the shop and get a new one.
She's been without for 48 hours now.
When will it get better? We plan on persistence

I think the issue may be that she hasn't yet found something instead of the dummy to comfort her. Does she take a teddy to bed? Also if she is nearly three then surely naps won't be going on much longer. None of the young children in my family continued daily naps after about 2 1/2 unless they were poorly or had been doing too much. Maybe if you cut the naps and settle on a slightly different 'big girl' bed time routine then she will quickly get used to a new routine without the dummy. Whatever you do, do not buy any more dummies however much your child asks. Her teeth are too important. This is one of those cases where you get the long term benefit, despite current pain.

3-4 days maybe.

DS did it himself. He went from a dummy in each fist and one in the mouth, and screaming if we suggested the dummy fairy, to tipping them all in the kitchen bin of his own accord and waving bye bye. No idea how or why. We has always done his own thing. Grin

Now is a good time. We had the Christmas fairy who after laying out the dummies for all the new babies at Christmas, she left a 'big boy/girl' present...
