When should you let them cry?

My DD is nearly a month old and I am still trying to find out what works re feeding and sleeping. Today she has fed and slept, but when she woke again was not feeding at the breast easily and was upset and not easily comforted, which she usualy is with cuddles, leading me to think she had wind.

Since she has already vomited up milk today I thought she shouldnt frantic feed and maybe I should just let her cry for a bit and fall asleep. I have done this twice and when i pick her up again she always calms down immediately and then burps and feding is easier.

But I feel cruel letting her cry. What would you do?

I would never let a one month old baby to cry. At that age, they cry for a reason, it's their only way of communicating, so I would go to them as fast as possible.

I have not left a baby to cry except when extremely tired/desperate. And then I can't do it for longer than a few minutes.

I'm a "leave the baby to cry" type of mother, but definitely not at a month old! Just keep feeding her, or try to get her to sleep if you don't think she's hungry.

Thanks, I have fed her again and she fed well and is sleeping quite happily now. I should point out that I never left the room and tried to get her to sleep by rocking the crib, not ignoring her. I guess distraction is the way to go because the calmer she is when she feeds the better.
