Best Christmas tradition book to get out each year

Hi,

I was wondering if there were any recommendations for a special Christmas book which we could get out each year for little ones? They're 3 and 6mo so thinking for this year onwards. Perhaps something that looks special but is also slightly sturdy?

3yo doesn't know much yet about the story of Christmas (either religious or Santa!) and it would be nice to have an explainer

Lucky Wish Mouse is especially lovely for little ones. Get the hardback with a little mouse in the back.

How Winston rescued Christmas by Alex T Smith is lovely. Its 24 and a half chapters so you read 1 night in December. There is also a second Winston book and 2 others one called The Grumpus and one based on the nutcracker but can't remember the name.

The Jolly Christmas Postman is brilliant

Jolly Christmas postman, such a beautiful book. I had it when I was little, still love it.

I love the Jolly Christmas Postman and we have it, but my daughter hasn’t been overly bothered by it up to now. She’s 4 now though and I think it will come into its own this year (we’ve not actually got the Christmas books out yet due to a busy weekend although I usually get them all out 1st December).

Like lots of people we read The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve, there are some very beautiful editions out there.

I have a massive pile of Christmas themed books left over from teaching days and also because I collected extra to do a book advent for DD (not bothering this year though will just be a basket of books).

My daughter’s absolute favourite so far has been One Snowy Night by M Christina Butler - it’s the one about a hedgehog and has soft bits to touch on all the pages. There’s also one of the same name which is a Percy the Park Keeper one, which she also loves but don’t think it’s Christmas specific.

When I was teaching little ones, Father Christmas Needs a Wee used to go down a storm!

Dear Santa is also lovely for very little ones.

My son is 4 (5 in 2 weeks though) and we've added to our Christmas collection each year. So far we have (and ds still loves all these) -

Kippers Christmas eve

Paddington and the Christmas surprise

Mog's Christmas (laughs his head off at the walking talking Christmas tree bit)

He also likes the Christmas books of his favourite shows like Bluey, Pepper etc. These probably won't stay favourites for much longer but hey duggee's night before Christmas in particular has had a very good run 🤣

This year we added Winnie and Wilbur meet Santa and How the Grinch stole Christmas, which he's loving.

I'm thinking I'll have to check out this jolly postman book now!

I had a beautiful version of the Nativity story. It had (well has, its nearly 40 years old sitting on my bookshelf) beautiful illustrations and was interspersed with lyrics for carols.

We have The Nights Before Christmas illustrated by Tony Ross. It's really lovely and has excerpts of longer Christmas story's like Fizziwigs party in Christmas Carol and other short stories including Twas the night before christmas. Teen DD still looks forward to me getting it out and has featured in 15 Christmases so far. There are 24 stories so one a night on the run up to Christmas.

Rudy’s Windy Christmas. Truly it’s been a Christmas classic since my youngest was about 2. 😂 We get it out every year.
