Hello,
We are planning to move from the East Midlands to Manchester. We will need to commute to the city center twice a week for work, with the rest of the time spent working from home. Our main priority is finding an area with outstanding primary schools (high-quality education), and later, good secondary schools.
After thorough research, I discovered that the Laurus Trust schools are known for their excellent education at both primary and secondary levels. Since these are state schools, we are considering living within their catchment areas, which include Wilmslow and Cheadle Hulme.
On a personal note, we prefer an area that isn’t overly urban or bustling but offers a safe, walkable environment with good parks for children to play, a library nearby, and a strong family-friendly vibe.
Some people have suggested that Wilmslow, Trafford, and Cheadle are great options. Could you please share your thoughts on these areas based on your personal experience or people you know are living? We’re also looking for a place that offers good value for money and has the potential for strong resale value in the future.

Hi, I live in Cheadle Hulme and work in Wilmslow. My daughter attends one of the Laurus secondary schools.

I would say Wilmslow is definitely a more upmarket area, full of Range Rovers and lots of nice cafes & restaurants. I’m wouldn’t think you get good value for money property wise but demand is high is that area and always will be. I would definitely want to be within walking distance of the town centre if I lived there. Wilmslow has its own high school which isn’t park of the Laurus group as far as I know.

Personally I prefer Cheadle Hulme, I have grown up here. The village itself has plenty of useful shops - Waitrose, small M&S, lovely butchers. Plenty of cafes & a few bars/pubs. Both areas have a library and good parks.

School wise I know plenty of people who have moved in Cheadle Hulme to get their children into CH high school, even from neighbouring villages such as Bramhall. The school has an excellent reputation, my son is at university now but he did very well there and as I say, my daughter is there currently in Year 10. The catchment area is very strict.

Hope this helps, any questions pls ask. Good luck x

P.S Have a look at Didsbury, a lovely area. Much easier commute into Manchester city centre and their secondary school is part of the Laurus Trust.

It will depend on your budget and house size needed

I grew up in Cheadle Hulme, and think it would tick a number of boxes. Nearby Bramall Park is pleasant and the train service into Manchester is regular.

Wilmslow if posh but dull and soul-less in my view. A relative of mine lives there.

My two both went to Hursthead. They both enjoyed it and did well. It’s a fairly big school compared to others locally. Three classes of approximately 30 in each group. The infant and junior schools are next to each other but separate in so much as they each have a different head.

Sale, timperley, sale moor, all great areas in trafford, metrolink is 20 minutes to city cente and great schools- you would be in ths catchment area for sale grammar school but ashton on mersey and sale high are also great schools too

sale town centre great for familys and lots of restaurants

Cheadle Hulme is good for commuting into Manchester. There are two lines that go into the city and it's rare that a problem will take out both lines so there's less impact with there are issues on the lines. There were 5 trains an hour when I was commuting out of Cheadle Hulme which was really good.
We lived on the border of Cheadle Hulme and Bramhall and spent more social time in Bramhall and practical things in Cheadle hulme.
Also close enough to Cheadle and handforth for the large retail parks and activities

One area which you should consider is Sale. Although it is a bit further out you have great schools out there and reasonably priced. Not only that but you have the tram which can egt you all the way to Manchester city centre in under 30 mins.

I see there are quite few houses I would like to view (looking good at rightmove) any particular area to avoid or road may be?
