Broken wrist after cast removed

Hi,

For those who's children that had broken wrists I just wanted to ask a couple of questions. My daughter soaked off her soft cast. She broke a couple of bones in her wrist nearly 3 weeks ago now. I have put it in a wrist splint (they said she could use a wrist support after the soft cast) as she said it hurts nearly as much as when she broke it.

Have those that had a similar experience found children said the same? I had to take her back and have the cast redone already so don't want to bother them unnecessarily if this is normal. Thank you.

If she's in that much pain I don't think that you're bothering them unnecessarily Flowers

So did they tell her to soak off the soft cast? Why did she take it off?
What age is she?
If the pain is as bad as when she first did it she needs to go get it re xrayed in case bones have displaced.

Did had a soft cast removed thiis week ( I left it on slightly longer than they had suggested ( initially said 5 weeks then changed to 4 so I took it off at nearly 5) . She's had more pain than she was having in the cast but she's using her arm so I think some is expected . We have an open appt with # clinic so if it doesn't improve we will go back

The fact she's in as much pain as she was originally means of you need to take her to be checked again. It's not wasting their time it's making sure your daughter doesn't have lifelong issues from her wrist not healing properly.

Yes they said after 2-3 weeks. She has had a new soft cast applied and they said she can keep in on for 2 weeks. Surprisingly they didn't x ray it again but it is feeling much better now.

Appreciate the responses. I rang them and they were helpful and saw her quickly. I just wanted to see if this was the experience others had. Thank you.

Same experience here and we went back - they said it was because she hadn't been using it so using it again caused pain. They were very thorough, sent her to physio and she was given exercises then checked a gain a few weeks later bu which time it was absolutely fine again.

I've broken my wrist before and it is painful when the cast is removed because it's been immobile so the muscles and ligaments and everything are very stiff. Have they given her a leaflet with gently exercises to do? If they have then she needs to do them, that will loosen everything back up and rebuild the muscles where it's started to break down.

They said it should be much better after 5 weeks in cast so will leave it on and then do exercises to strengthen. She did break her growth plate and her distal radius so think minor injuries gave quite a quick time frame initially. Fortunately it will soon be her Christmas break when she has it off so she can ease back into strengthening it back up.

I have a leaflet with exercises for her to do later :) thank you.
