To stay awake all night?

What do you do when baby is unwell and will only sleep on you?

Do you stay awake all night?

Baby will not sleep in bed next to me, wants to be on me. Help.

Should have said, baby is teething and quite unhappy.

I don't think that would be safe. You are likely to fall asleep at some point, and I'm guessing the baby is old enough to wriggle and roll so you are even more likely to drop them. Perhaps let them fall asleep on you then verrryyyyy slowly lower them onto the bed next to you, maintaining contact and practising safe co sleeping.

Do you have a partner who can tag team with you?💐

Definitely tag team if you have a partner. Otherwise wait until they’re properly asleep, lift their arm and see if they stay asleep when you let it drop. Then if they do stay asleep slide them down next to you and keep your hand on them until they settle properly again. Then sleep with your top on for warmth and the duvet only up to your waist, no pillows near them. Have you given ibuprofen for the teething pain?

Sympathies! This has been my life for the last few days. My baby is now (finally!) co sleeping because I breastfed lying sideways then rolled myself away! We have never coslept before but at least this way I might get some sleep!

Alternatives: take shifts if you have a partner

Chocolaterocketcake · 25/11/2024 00:56

Look up safe chest sleeping and follow your gut/instincts.

Cosleepy on instagram has some good insights.

How old is your baby? Hope they recover soon…you might find you are able to put them down at somepoint tonight, don’t write the whole night off just yet.

Chocolaterocketcake · 25/11/2024 04:36

Have you managed any sleep OP? @Nosleepformeeeeeee

Nosleepformeeeeeee · 25/11/2024 06:31

Thank you all, I read every comment and watched the video on the lullaby trust webstue and we did manage some sleep. I did the very slow roll in bed as suggested!

Poor thing has a raised temp of 38.1 this morning and whole body is hot. I think it must be related to the teeth I can see them just about to push through.

Although older brother just had chickenpox so I'm really hoping it's not that starting.

Really glad you got some rest @Nosleepformeeeeeee sorry your little one is so poorly, I hope it’s just teeth and not chickenpox and then hopefully you’ll get a better night tonight.

These days I put the cot mattress on the floor, set up DS2 there with pillow and blanket as usual, and sleep next to them. Works better for my DS2 who won't stop somersaulting in my bed but is perfectly still in his own bed.

DD4.5 is fine to share my bed, she doesn't bother me as much. If however she's inconsolable then we go downstairs and try and sleep there to minimise disturbance to others.
