Help! How do I get my toddler to cot nap?!

So I’m guilty of taking the easy road and my 16 month old has only ever napped in the sling, on me after a BF, or in the buggy. This has never been an issue for me…until now.
I’m no longer BF so currently naps are either in the buggy or in the car BUT now I’m back at work and DS is in childcare the nap situation is becoming a huge issue. DS just isn’t napping at all and will end up screaming with tiredness all afternoon and occasionally just pass out really late in the afternoon (and wake up 15mins later).
I feel terrible that he’s not getting the sleep he needs and feel really guilty that I haven’t prepared him more for this transition.

So many people told me that babies/toddlers are different in childcare than at home and just follow what the other kids are doing, but not DS (it’s been 3 months of this).

I’ve decided to crack this over the Christmas break so does anyone have any tips on how to persuade him to nap in the cot? I’d love to hear any success stories of others who’ve achieved cot naps later on too?

Personally I wouldn't go for the cot if he's going down in there at night without any issues. He might decide that he doesn't want to sleep in there at all.

Do you have a spare bed that you could put a bed guard on?

And have you read the No Cry Nap Solution?

Can’t his childcare have him nap in a buggy? Or does it have to be constantly moving?

When DD1 started nursery they rocked her to sleep in her buggy for the first couple of weeks and then did some voddoo magic and got her into a cot.

My DD never napped in her cot, she was an on the go baby, when she turned 3 months, DS started school, which was part time for 6 months. She then went to childminder where she napped in her buggy, at home I also put her in her buggy if we weren’t on school run, it was a nice roomy Baby jogger buggy with a hood that pulled right down to keep sun out and make it darker.

Does it really have to be the cot? My 2 year old has never napped in his. When we are at home he naps in his pushchair in the living room for up to 2 hours. Added benefit is that if we need to be out he is used to it and will nap a bit out and about as well, although usually not for quite as long. I felt there was a lot of pressure from certain sources to get him napping in the cot when he was younger, but I really don't think it would have made things better for us or him in any way
He has also always slept well at nursery in a cot when smaller and then on the mat despite being used to movement to fall asleep at home, and has been sleeping through the night in his cot since around 13-14 months.

What I mean is, the not sleeping well in nursery May not be at all linked to the way he naps outside and if your way is still working outside of childcare, so t feel that you need to change it or that the issues he has in childcare are your fault in any way

Thanks so much for the replies! @KatRee you’re right, I’m feeling a lot of pressure from his current childminder that he ‘should’ be napping in the cot by now, when in reality it’s never a problem for us and if anything I like the flexibility of it.
I have to say recently his naps are getting shorter and shorter and I half wonder if napping in the cot might help but he’s so easily distracted that has soon as he stirs he wants to play when he’s in his room.

He sleeps fine in the cot at night.
Maybe I should start getting him used to napping in the buggy not moving as a first step. He’s done this on occasion when he’s really really tired, but usually I walk around the block and he’s asleep within a minute or two and I wheel him back into the living room.
@Lifeglowup new nursery starting next year said they would rock him in the buggy to start so I’m also hoping they can work some magic!
