6 year old suddenly bed wetting

My 6 nearly 7 year old has suddenly started wetting the bed. She's been dry overnight since about 2. She never even gets up to go to the loo overnight. Suddenly since Wednesday she has been wet. I've contacted the GP, who tested her urine and gave her a short course of antibiotics in case of a uti, but that hasn't helped. I can't think of anything seriously that may be going on over the usual other than having to learn lots of lines for the school play. She's so very upset about it and I want to help her sort it as quickly as possible.

Also to say I've checked for worms, because someone else mentioned that, so that's not the issues either.

Has she been drinking anything different at all, like a new juice or more than usual, or hot chocolate?

It’s good that the GP tested urine but it might be worth asking for a finger prick test for diabetes.

@elrider not that I can think of. Usually just water, squash or milk.

@Endofmytether2020 yes. He didn't even mention this but I've seen i come up a couple of times and feel surprised they've not done one just to eliminate. Rhat said we didn't actually see the GP, just dropped of a urine sample and then had a follow up call.

My DS started bed wetting before he was diagnosed with diabetes he was 11. I would definitely ask the GP to check that. Has she been tired, thirsty, is she thinner?

Justkeepswiimming · 22/11/2024 13:08

@SquatWeightaMinute she's definitely more tired. But I've sort of put it down to the time of year, although she never admits to or concedes she's being tired, but had been complaining of being tired recently. I have a follow up gp appointment today so will push for a test. Thank you.

Please do check even just to rule it out.

I had no idea about diabetes and DS ended up in DKA on the high dependency unit. He was bed wetting and tired all the time. He was drinking lots but I didn’t realise they were symptoms of diabetes, I just had no clue.

Toilet, Tired, thin, Thirsty - I always post on threads like this.

Thank you @SquatWeightaMinute she's a slim bean anyway so I haven't identified any weight loss. But definitely more tired. I'll ask when they call.

Sounds like it might be unrelated then but just throwing it out there that we found certain flavours of squash caused bedwetting around that age. I'd read that other coloured drinks like hot chocolate can also irritate the bladder.
