What's the best method to keep hands of toddler warm during winter?

As above. I tried gloves but my 1 year olds hands are still freezing cold when outside.

Are there any good products or methods?

Are they complaining of the cold?

In winter I have fancy waterproof gloves for my 3 year old but also carry around a few pairs of those £1 magic gloves since they inevitably get wet or lost.

Cosy footmuff up to the their neck and a coat or snowsuit with fold over sleeves that make mittens or if you don’t want to buy a new coat then ski gloves. But if they’re wearing any gloves and not pulling them off, and it’s not below about -5 where you live then I wouldn’t be remotely concerned.

Mittens on a string through their sleeves.

But the key is to keep the main trunk of the body warm, and pulse points covered. If the body is cold, then extremities will be.

However, as @InTheRainOnATrain said, having cold hands is not something to worry about.

No he wasn't complaining but I got worried how cold hands were despite gloves 🧤!

@mama678910

I'm sure he'll be fine.

My son has only started requesting gloves this winter now that he's 3. I think it's a rare one or two year old who'll keep gloves on at all so you're doing well. As long as his core is warm he'll be ok.

Mittens on a string here as well. Wool is better for warmth than synthetics.

Ski mittens, lots online. Mine spent a lot of time outdoors and wore these to keep warm.

Also came to ask the fibre content of the gloves. There's a BIG difference in warmth between acrylic/cotton and even 20% wool content.

Obviously wool is more expensive, so take precautions if they're likely to get lost!

I get a pair of warm adult sized socks and put one on each hand, pulling it right up their arm, then put their coat on top, then mittens on top of that. It stops them pulling their gloves off as they can't get the socks off! I also carry several pairs of the cheap magic mittens as they inevitably get wet so I can swap them for a dry pair easily.

How do they pick anything up? My child would have been very upset not to be able to explore things properly

They can move their fingers the same way they can in mittens, granted not as easily as in thin gloves. I found this method most useful when they were in a pram, pulling off their gloves and then getting upset because their hands were cold.
