No friends and so lonely

My DD has just been painfully excluded from her friendship group. It was very insular group and as a consequence she didn’t mix that much with others. She’s shy and very anxious.
they have moved on to another college after GSCEs, she has stayed in for 6th form at her current school.
Finding a new friendship group is proving challenging. Girls seem so clicky. Often excluded and ignored when she tries to make conversation. It’s actually making her ill. She’s so lonely. She has got to the point where she seems to have given up trying to make new friends and dreads school.
my heart breaks for her. I put a smile on my face and convince her to go in each day. I am at a loss what to do.
she’s not one to bitch or gossip. Stays out of drama. She just wants some company at school. Please advise

Teenage girls can be so cruel it’s awful.
As rubbish as it is my advice is just get through the year as best as she can and before you know it will be time to leave and start fresh at university, college, work or whatever it may be and your wonderful girl will form many new friendships and connections.
It really is awful in the moment to go though something like this but in a few years time she’ll have moved on and met her tribe.
Big hugs to your girl! x

There is generally a big shift in groups of friends in 6th form, as people tend to spend more time with people doing the same subjects as them, which won't usually be the same group as pre-GCSEs, plus there are usually new people who join the school in the 6th form. But it can take time to become close friends with people.
Perhaps she needs to focus on the friends she has from outside of school at the moment, and just remain pleasant at school without pinning hopes of a deep friendship on those interactions, but obviously being open to friendships deepening if it happens.

This happened to my DD, it is utterly heartbreaking. She started uni in September and she’s made some friends now. I’m so sorry I have no real advice other than just support her, listen to her and make her time out of school the best it can be. If it’s making her ill would she consider changing courses / college? Hugs to you lovely girl!

I was in a similar situation in 6th form. No friends at all really but I did get a weekend job and made friends there, then made a good friend at university.
It may just be a case of survival of the actual school bit and just see it as a place to study.
Its very hard as a parent though to see your daughter so sad.
