Christmas activity calender ideas.

We do a Christmas activity calender as well as normal foil chocolate ones. I have a big wooden gingerbread house with 24 doors and everyday of December we do a festive activity sometimes they're quick and easy some require a bit more effort. Does anyone do this? And if so do you have any ideas? I'm trying not to repeat to many from last year, I've got

• Christmas baking
• ginger bread house decorating
• putting on Christmas bedding
• donating to the food bank
• writing Christmas cards for school
• Christmas movie nights
• making paper chains

and then on one of the days at the weekend we are going ice skating that's the big one. What else could we do? Children are 9,4 and 2

Make Christmas cards for close family
decorate the tree
Collect some greenery and make a wreath and/or table arrangement
Help wrap some presents
Print off some Christmas colouring pages to do

Omgooodness I completely forgot about paper snow flakes. I'll have to google and remind myself how to make them. Thankyou ☺️

I've done something similar with my toddler, so sorry if these are a bit young:

  • Christmas film
  • Christmas music and dance around to the songs
  • baking
  • crafting
  • drawing / painting / colouring
  • reading Christmas books
  • going for a walk round neighbours to look at the lights
  • Santa visit
  • garden centre visit
  • write letter to Santa (my child is too young, but could do this at the beginning of December?)
-wear a Christmas outfit

Then pop the bigger / expensive things you have planned into the correct doors:
-visit to Santa
-light trail
-panto etc etc

Hope that helps!

*We go out once a week to see the new lights around the village.
*Go to the library for new Christmas books to read.
*at the weekend could you take each child individually to buy each other gifts from a charity shop?
*make salt dough or baking soda dough ornaments
*hot chocolate and Christmas songs

  • my 7 year old loves making up new songs/stories so could you do that?

Jacquie Lawson advent calendar - a download - lots of lovely things to do, and all very tasteful! I send one to each of my DDs and their families each year - they love them.

I'm going to do this this year, we have a fabric one that MIL made when DH was little, I'll put a little chocolate plus an activity in.

Other ideas -

  • Walk to see Christmas lights in area, or maybe a drive around with christmas music playing?
  • Christmas songs kitchen disco
  • Making chocolate Christmas trees - https://loveeatsleepfood.com/?p=5260 - this lady says 'they take a bit of practice' but I managed it with 2 3 year olds last year and it was easy enough!
  • Make/ post cards for neighbours if you know them
  • Trip to library to check out some christmas books
  • Trip to charity shop with a small amount of money to either buy a gift for a family member, or a decoration
  • School Christmas fair
  • Make winter bird feeders - just cheerios on pipe cleaners or more elaborate depending on your interest/ skill level
  • Print own wrapping paper - Christmas shape cutters, brown paper, paint
  • Have a festive bath - use coloured bubble bath or get one of the Christmassy bath bombs (there's some that have a little toy or figure inside), play Christmas music, have it in the dark just with battery fairy lights or candles in the room, or if you've got a disco light or projector or anything like that, or a projector
  • Snow messy play - more for little ones but fill tray or tub with shaving foam or the instant/ magic snow stuff or even desiccated coconut - stick a few containers/ Christmas shapes/ figures in there
  • Play dough with Christmas cutters/ shapes
  • Make salt dough decorations
