How soon after waking does your 16 mo eat breakfast?

DD usually floors a bottle of milk on waking at 6:30ish and then we have breakfast at 8:30 ish (she's not hungry before). Should I be giving her breakfast as soon as she wakes or is this ok??

seems fine to me

WowOoo · 28/04/2008 08:40

I leave it as then it's more likely to get eaten a bit later. As long as she has a drink or something, it's fine.

ds2 is only 10 mths but wont touch breakfast before 8.30

ds(18months) gets breakfast when I am dressed and ready to go downstairs which is around 7.45/8am. I get up and ready first as I also have to get him and his big sister ready to go out for dd's nursery which starts at 9am.

posieflump · 28/04/2008 12:24

yes we did this until recently too
now though my 20 month old wakes the same time as ds and wants her breakfast when he has his so they both have it at 7am. She has it with her botle of milk.

jingleyjen · 28/04/2008 12:26

DS2 is a bit older than this but his routine hasn't changed for ages,
up at 7.15/7.30
downstairs for breakfast
milk offered after breakfast.

My ds (16 months) has a cup of milk on waking (usually about 7 but could be earlier or later) , and then breakfast about 8. He always seems ready for it, but I think mornings are his hungry times!

Laugs · 28/04/2008 12:57

DD (17mths) gets up, dressed, teeth brushed and then breakfast with a drink, all probably within about half an hour of waking.

I think it's best to do what suits you. If he was hungry before, he'd let you know.

LittleB · 28/04/2008 13:03

My dd (2.11) still has about half a pint of milk on waking at 7ish, then she has her breakfast at about 9, has done this for years. This suits me well becasue it means whoever is looking after her while I'm working (mum or MIL - 3 days per week) gives her breakfast so I don't have to worry about giving it to her whilst trying to get ready for work. I guess I'll have to change this one day, but its conveniant now and she'd soon tell me if she was hungry, i have tried givbing her breakfast earlier a couple of times but she won't eat iot all if she's full of milk, I will cut her milk back and breakfast earlier - probably before she starts school. I'd do whatever is easiest for you.

Exactly what our Ds - 23mths- does. To be honest on the three days he goes to nursery it suits us as he has breakfast there and by having some milk it gets him going and tides him over. You used to have to give him ages between milk and breakfast (otherwise he wouldn't eat it) but now we only have to leave it 45mins or so - that said if he goes longer he's not fading away.

Thank you everyone - that makes me feel better. DD does have breakfast at nursery and to be honest, I am so crap in the mornings, that the thought of rustling up a meal on her first cheep makes me feel rather pale.

My DD2 is up at 7 and has a cup of milk which she ignores so it is then poured on some breakfast cereal 5 mins later and gobbled up. She then has a snack at about 10 and lunch at 12.

Indith · 28/04/2008 19:50

ds lets it be known upon waking that he wants his breakfast NOW. Well, he is happy to say hello, have nappy changed, perhaps a romp in our bed but as soon as I get downstairs and start getting breakfast ready he trails round and cries and shouts and points at his breakfast and then goes and stands by the highchair shouting at me! Greedy little munchkin

Gemzooks · 28/04/2008 19:54

DS 18 mo has porridge and banana, cries with hunger while it's getting ready, has an apple to keep him happy..
