Baby lunches on the go

What do you take for food on the go for 10 month old? Not really doing purées - used to do the odd pouch but trying to move away from them. Eats a lot of finger food but I worry about sandwiches clagging in the mouth? Don’t want to just stick to fruit and soft veg. Things like omelette and lasagne we do at home are very messy on the go.

I used to do cream cheese and veggie wraps all the time at that age, not too messy and easy to make

Stressedoutforever · 16/11/2024 09:47

Or homemade cheese swirls and sausage rolls

mitogoshigg · 16/11/2024 09:50

Sandwiches are give, or pots of pasta salad maybe, don't overthink it.

Following with interest! Mine isn't really interested in puree so the pouches aren't ideal plus not appealing outside on a cold day.
Also he's not really taken to omelette stdkos/savoury muffin type things

verycloakanddaggers · 16/11/2024 11:00

Of you get a tub with small sections, you can put things like cooked sweetcorn, crackers, veg/fruit, chopped cold meat or cheese in separate bits. Homemade cheese straws are easy to make in big batches and good as they contain butter/egg/cheese so quite calorific.

Yourethebeerthief · 16/11/2024 13:06

I used to make different sandwiches and cut them up into little squares. Also pots of pasta, flask of soup, fruit and veg, yoghurt, humous, rice cakes etc. but if we were in a cafe he'd just have a bit of whatever I was having.

Bedtimewoes91 · 16/11/2024 13:26

Pancakes are good on the go as they're not really messy. You can make a batch and keep them in the freezer

Homemade Banana pancakes, muffins of various sorts eg banana, veg, spinach and cheese etc.z

DappledThings · 16/11/2024 20:14

I used to do a lot of sharing what I was having. Jacket potato with tuna was good, omelette, pasta. Got a bit boring for me having limited lunch choices for a but less boring than having to think about it in advance.

Jellybott · 16/11/2024 20:24

What Mummy Makes has some good recipes for traybaked fritters and savoury flapjacks which break up easily when chewed. Pizza pinwheels using ready rolled puff pastry are usually a hit too.

Motherofdragons20 · 16/11/2024 23:21

Homemade banana and peanut butter oat bars? Ok not traditionally “lunch” food but who cares, I used to made a big batch and store in the fridge, they were great as a breakfast on the go while doing the nursery run. Can’t see why it wouldn’t work as a lunch every now and again.

OP is asking for relatively non messy lunch ideas for on the go. Jacket potato with tuna is the absolute opposite of that! Haha

Lelophants · 16/11/2024 16:24

How do you make it?

Cream cheese, wraps, grated veggies with the water squeezed out

Roll up and cut into chunks

Singleandproud · 17/11/2024 00:25

I'm pretty sure at that age I just took a banana, tupperware box and fork to mash it / shared whatever I was having or had something additional when we got home.
Not if we were going out for a full day somewhere like a zoo trip then it might be something more substantial but if we were going to Bounce and Rhyme at the library which was close to lunchtime and we'd be heading home shortly anyway.

I was taking on the go to just mean out, i.e. in a cafe. If it was picnic style bring your own only then yes, ignore me. I was going for the easiest option of not preparing anything.

SillyNavySnail · 17/11/2024 16:12

Sandwiches, cheese, peas, more cheese, fruit at that age. We also have reusable pouches for yogurt a lot when a bit older, and fruit

ThisLoyalMum · 17/11/2024 20:55

Egg wraps with some sort of veg are a great option - nutritious and not messy! scramble the egg and cook in a pan (with veggies mixed in) & before it fully cooks, put a wrap on top. Having the filling stuck to the wrap means they're less likely to pull it apart!

Matildahoney · 17/11/2024 21:04

We do omelette on the go all the time, just make it smaller and thicker and cook it a bit longer than normal so it's a bit more firm.

deeeyewhy · 18/11/2024 08:20

From about 8-9 months we did mainly sandwiches (one piece of bread, so half a sandwich, cut into tiny bite-size cubes or thin fingers), puffy crisps (Organix), yogurt, baby oat bars or a biscuit and some sliced grapes / peeled oranges etc. for lunches on the go.

ARichtGoodDram · 18/11/2024 08:31

Pizza wraps are even easier than pinwheels (which can be messy imo with flaky pasty).

Tomato puree on half the wrap, then cheese, fold in half and then in the air fryer for 4 mins. Or under the grill. You can put other toppings in easily as well.

It's always my go to on days out with wee ones.

YRGAM · 18/11/2024 12:11

Used to do lots of pasta at that age. Also grated carrot, parsnip, oats and feta pressed into balls and baked, the baby would just happily gnaw on it on the go

Genius! I’ll be trying that in a minute.
