Calpol plug in dupe?

We're back in the season of calpol plug ins at night time to help with the kids coughs and colds. Can anyone recommend a dupe for the pads or something to put on the pads that would have a similar effect without the cost of new pads every evening?

They are extortionate aren’t they! We use them once and then I soak them in olbas oil either side and reuse a couple more times after that!

Boots do their own brand which look cheaper. I haven’t used them though. I dip olbas oil in and re use

I love the smell of the calpol ones and find it really comforting but the price is crazy!
I'll try olbas oil as you've said, thank you!
When the kids were much younger I was afraid to use anything on the pads as they don't advise it but presume it's ok once the pad doesn't get too damaged?

It's not exactly the same smell but we used the snuffle babe oil, you add a few drops to a bowl of hot water and leave in the bedroom. It's very strong so only need a tiny amount, the tiny bottle has lasted us absolutely ages so much much cheaper than Calpol plug ins. DH and I use it when we have a cold too not just for the kids and find it very effective.

We go through phases of needing them nightly for weeks, so have started snuffle babe drops on the calpol pads and back in the plug in. Found this actually to be more effective than Calpol if you use enough! Fine line though as too much can make your eyes water, but definitely good for clearing the sinuses!
