Nappies that actually work and stain remover?

Hi all,

fighting a losing battle it seems. My 3 month old baby just isn’t getting on with nappies that actually contain his poo.
aldi- leaks wee.
Lidl- leaks wee
asda - poo explosions
tesco- tried a couple and they don’t hold well
all of them have poo explosions the only benefit is Asda works for wee but still
I change him often, never letting it sit. So we go through a lot.
but the poo explosions. I hear him pooping I put him on the mat (anti roll mat we put wherever we are) and within 20 seconds it’s already pooling around his belly, back or sides. Honestly it’s madness. He’s ruined so many really nice outfits. I’ve tried soaking them but then I’m running out of sleepsuits and vests and it’s not even getting them out. my washing is overflowing (still adjusting to two kids) my daughter hardly ever had poo explosions. My son is having one ever. Single. Time.

any nappies you find actually work? And an easy stain remover so I can just chuck in the machine as I’m giving up at this point?

thank you

Not sure what to say about the nappies sorry! My DD could only have pampers at one point because everything else leaked wee.
He might also need a bigger size maybe?

Napisan is good for stains and disinfecting, it's designed for cloth nappies but I still use it on my DDs clothes if they're particularly dirty.
You can soak clothes in it or add to the washing machine

No advice on the nappies but in terms of staining I used to just throw the worst stained clothes away and then I discovered the power of sunshine!

mumstheword223 · 12/11/2024 10:37

I used Fred and Flo size 1 and 2, Mamia nappies for size 3 and 4 but it seems like you've used these. My friend uses Sainsbury's brand and says they are very good but I haven't used them personally.

I have seen a hack on TikTok to hand wash the clothes with fairy liquid whilst also scrubbing the stain and it takes it out, though I haven't used that method. Whenever my little one gets poo on her clothes I wash it immediately and soak it in washing up powder and water for at least half an hour, rinse and then pop in the washing machine and it does the trick for me!

Oh and also bundles of used sleep suits and vests on eBay/facebook marketplace etc - then if they're particularly bad you won't mind throwing them out

Snowtimex7 · 12/11/2024 10:43

Thank you for your comments. I forgot about the sunshine thing! Normally I chuck them in the tumble dryer. I will attempt the sunshine today and order some napisan thank you!

I tried going up a size but it came out under the strap so that was a fail. It’s a Houdini act i swear!

Try a reusable nappy cover or wrap over the disposable – one of the advantages of reusable nappies that they're better at containing poo. Yes, you'll have to wash the wraps, but that's easier than lots of full outfit changes and having clothes ruined. (A reusable wrap over a reusable nappy is the best combination for avoiding poo leaks, but a wrap over a disposable should still help a fair bit.)

I'd try one of the nappy groups on Facebook or the contact info on The Nappy Lady website to get recommendations on what wraps are likely to be best for your baby's size and shape.

I’m in the same boat with the poo everywhere. It’s exhausting! I find washing straight away on a hot wash is the best for getting the stains out. Napisan too and sunlight.

mindutopia · 13/11/2024 06:34

Vanish gel for stains.

I would try the reusable nappy wrap suggestion.

Guavafish1 · 13/11/2024 06:36

Try boots brand

If you know when he will go then take him to the toilet. You can use toilet/bath/sink/potty/am all bucket what ever. Try Elimination Communication.
We do this with our 2 DC and it saves so much mess plus more dignified not letting them sit in their own crap. When you know they will go say after waking up or after a feed take them straight to the toilet ket them Dow thwir business.

We put baby over toilet squatted and then wash them with soap and water no nappy rashes ever and fresh and clean. It also makes potty training 100% easier as they wont be scared of the toilet and they know what the toilet is for. By 12 months DS1 was doing all No.2s in the toilet and he could communicate his needs with sign by then. No.1s were much much harder and it took another 15months to get fully potty trained for days time.

For the stains Napisan got water soak and then wash afterwards.

LemonRobin · 13/11/2024 07:12

I found a size up in Pura for nights(I only buy when half prive) and Ocado for day works.
However there will still be the odd leak

jannier · 13/11/2024 07:17

Milton Sterilising fluid solution is great for stains.

JustPickleRick · 13/11/2024 07:25

Try pampers. I never had this drama with my son. We used Pampers from day one and had no explosions apart from the odd one where he'd been in his bouncer.

Mmr224 · 13/11/2024 07:26

Our two children were different shapes and we had similar issues. We found some of the disposable nappies had much better elastic at the back of the nappy, from memory, Aldi had a premium range and a standard size in sizes 1-3 and the premium was much better at the smaller sizes. I don't know if they have just moved to one range now, as our you gest us 3. Sainsbury's had the same good elastic at the back.

We used washable wipes but not washable nappies (tried them but didn't get on with them) but I did use a napisan cold soak bucket for really stained clothes, and then a hang in the sun. For pooey stained clothes I tried using running cold water to get the stain out asap, with a little laundry scrubbing brush and a hard bar of vanish and then a soak in napisan before washing. I rarely lost any clothes. The same trick plus sunshine works on most food stains too when they start eating. Good luck.

MuslinZmum · 12/12/2024 13:46

Cloth nappies do tend to contain poop explosions better - I know its a drastic step but maybe worth considering.

AegonT · 14/12/2024 22:09

Sunlight gets poo stains out. Cloth nappies contain poo as they have elastic round the back. You could use a hybrid of disposable nappy with a cloth wrap over. The Nappy Lady has tips for stopping disposables leaking and advice for trying cloth. You might find once wean starts the explosions stop. We used Pampers when on holiday (didn't use cloth away from our washing machine and drying facilities) and we had to go to the bigger size for her weight to stop wee leaking overnight.
