High chair recommendations?

RevelryMum · 08/11/2024 08:33

I'm going to start DD on solids in a few weeks and need to buy a high chair ideally I would like something I can fold away but also has cushioning on it for her so she is comfortable, not really crazy about just plain plastic or wooden high chairs without some padding for her to sit against .

We’ve gone for the silver cross 4 in 1 as eventually it turns into a table a chair.

Lifeglowup · 08/11/2024 10:17

It doesn’t fold but the ikea one is the easiest to clean and you can get a cushion for it which goes in the washing machine.

Highly recommend the IKEA Antilop. It's so easy to clean and you can buy padded insert for added comfort but honestly I don't think they need it particularly. It doesn't fold but you can take the legs off for storage. Absolute bargain price too!

Cushioning might seem like a good idea but it is a PITA to clean, and when they start out eating (and for the next two years 😂) they will make a HUGE mess every time. We have the Tripp Trapp which I know is expensive but it does last for years and DC likes to sit with everyone at the table. Doesn’t fold but as it tucks in nicely under the table like a normal chair, it doesn’t really take up much room.

Bedtimewoes91 · 08/11/2024 11:37

Honestly they're not in it for long enough to worry about padding and it's such a pain in the arse to clean!

We have Stoke tripp trapp which I like because my three year old now uses it as a normal seat at the table. Appreciate they're not cheap but we got a good deal on FB marketplace.

I can't get on with the IKEA one because I'm constantly tripping over the bloody legs!

Sassysoonwins · 08/11/2024 11:40

It's a while ago for me now but I initially got a nice fancy cushioned one. The horror of trying clean out dried on porridge, rice pudding etc from every crevice on it drove me mad. I got an ikea antilop and would take it outside and blast it with the hose after each meal. Lots of fun, quick and satisfying.

LifeD1lemma · 08/11/2024 11:41

Imo you should either splash out on the Stokke or get the ikea antilop. No point spending more on a plastic one and definitelu don’t get a cushioned one.

You want ease of cleaning as no 1 criteria!

Batbatbatty · 08/11/2024 12:08

Absolutely either the IKEA one or a TrippTrapp, depending on how much you want to spend. We started out with the IKEA chair and around 1.5years changed to the Stokke. Now we have a Stokke I would use that from the outset if we have another because I love how close they sit to the table. But the IKEA was absolutely did the job and was super easy to clean.

doodleschnoodle · 08/11/2024 12:14

We got a cheap version of the Tripp Trapp for DD2 and it's really good. It was about £70. Wouldn't pay full price for a Stokke one but you can get lucky with deals.

For a pure highchair and nothing else, we had the Antilop and no complaints. We often put the tray through the dishwasher.

Ours is the Hauck Alpha and it's great.

WutheringMights · 08/11/2024 12:34

This little beauty.
It has a pleather seat cushion that wipes down or you can remove it completely and hose it down in the garden:

Get the Tripp Trapp with 2 cushions so you can rotate in the wash

OneBlackHeart · 08/11/2024 12:59

Tripp trapp is the best! Look for second hand on eBay or Facebook market place. I have 4 of them as I'm a childminder, by far the easiest to clean and you can adjust them as the child grows. With a bit of strength you can pop the guard off so it's just like a chair without having to take the thing apart to convert it. They can take 18 stone so are used for adults in my house when I'm not working and just slide under the dining table like a normal chair

drivinmecrazy · 08/11/2024 13:10

Tripp Trapp. Still use them more than twenty years later!

Printedword · 08/11/2024 13:13

Depends on the child. Our DC was very tiny and non padded high chair would have been unviable. Also, ones without harness are a nightmare

pongy · 08/11/2024 13:16

I personally hate the IKEA Antilop and loathe take the tray off - it’s so difficult! We have a second hand one at my parents so not like it’s new and stiff. We have a maxi cosi nesta which is the same concept as the Tripp trapp but I preferred it aesthetically.

Get this, OP - it’s the most simple efficient design and so easy to take the legs off to throw it in the boot for travelling. All my nine grandchildren used / use them. 👍

Thiswayorthatway · 08/11/2024 13:19

Yes yes to IKEA Antilop for ease of cleaning. You can remove the tray so they can also sit at the table. We had an inflatable blue red striped cushion with a removable cover which was helpful, may have just stuffed an old towel behind baby sometimes also.

OMGsamesame · 08/11/2024 13:30

What's so great about the tripp trapp?
