Breath holding spells toddler

DD is 2yo. Had two episodes of breath holding spells since 18mo where she was about to have a tantrum, started screaming but quickly went silent, then blue and fainted for up to 1-2 min, just to recover and be her usual self, no confusion or drowsiness.
I absolutely panicked both times and I'm so scared of it happening again.
We took her to the GP and he said is a case of breath holding spell, nothing to be done unless it gets really bad and to not to worry as it is not harmful and will resolve with time.

Anyone has had this experience with their child and would like to share? Looking for some reassurance or tips.

DD did it a couple of times. I'd forgotten all about it until I read you post!
This too shall pass.

My DD did this as a toddler whenever she got hysterical and couldn't catch her breath, absolutely frightened the life out of me when she did it for the first time!

We learnt to tell very quickly when she was getting hysterical and would blow in her face until she caught her breath again. She did grow out of it.

When she did pass out she would wake up almost instantly and there were no long lasting effects from it. A quick cuddle and she'd be off playing like nothing had happened.

My friends son did this, it was terrifying the first time I saw it. He grew out of it pretty quickly.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
It is very reassuring to know that it happens to others as nobody in my circle seems to have heard of it!
Blowing on the face is a good tip, I will try that if it happens again.
And thanks for reassuring me she will grow out of it.

Oh op this used to be my sister! The first time she did it my Mum called an ambulance (8 year age gap so I remember it well). It wasn't just tantrums it was when she hurt herself as well. Doctors told my Mum to blow hard in her face to make her take a breath but if she missed that opportunity then to just catch her when she was passing out and lay her down then her body would take over and she would breath again.

She did it until she was 3 years old and then just stopped!
