Hi everyone,

My 7-month-old has outgrown his bath support and is starting to slide off of it. He’s able to sit up but isn’t fully stable yet. What do others use for bath time at this stage?

Thanks so much!

We turned ours upside down and sat her in it that way! So she was still sort of contained, but always stayed within arms length anyway while still a bit wobbly sitting up

When both of mine hit that stage I just had them sat in the bath without anything supporting them. I kept the water shallower than usual which seemed to help and obviously sat right next to them for the inevitable topple or two. I also reduced the amount of toys so they weren't moving about too much. They soon learnt and became more stable. The transition only lasted a few weeks and then they were more confident and secure

IKEA flexible laundry basket. Best 5 quid ever spent. He's now 2 years old and still in it. You use way less water and he's contained. I put a small non slip mat in the bottom of it.

Just had them in the main bath, once sitting it’s not usually long until they’re stable so just hold onto them for a couple of weeks whilst they get used to it.

@Batbatbatty How creative, I love this!

My baby is not sitting stable at the moment so I’m hesitant putting him without support. But as people said, it’s a short phase.

I wonder if anyone has used something similar to this:

how easy is it to take child in and out of it?

At that age I had a flower shaped mat/towel/sponge thing that went in the kitchen sink for the baby to sit in while I bathed her in there. I think the first time she went in the big bath was at 10 months when we were at my mum's for a few days and as she loved it I started putting her in our bath once we were back at home.

We found this hard and uncomfortable 😣 Plus he would have outgrown it so fast. I just supported him during the stage of wanting to sit but not sitting stable

Fifi80 · 06/11/2024 14:01

@Batbatbatty that’s what I was afraid of. I’m wondering if it’s manageable when only one person bathing the baby. How would you manage with getting soap or a towel- I imagine with one hand holding baby?

@Fifi80 just have a towel next to you, soap within reach. If he's that unstable have you considered an upright baby bath like the Schnuggle?

We used something similar from Angelcare and it was a lifesaver! You get used to taking them out and frankly it was worth it.

tonyhawks23 · 06/11/2024 17:55

You can just bath with them in the bath.

kitchenpocket · 06/11/2024 17:58

The angelcare one is so good

Bonfirenightchaos · 06/11/2024 18:00

Those bath style seats which hold them in aren’t the safest. They’re not recommended by many. I would hold baby for now and soon they’ll be able to sit and be handed with your watch.

I say this kindly, but I think you’re overthinking this a bit. Your child can sit, and it will only be a matter of a few weeks before they’re stable enough, so just let them sit in a shallow bath. Get everything prepared before you put them in (soap, towel etc), and just bath them. If they topple over, just pick them up. It will be ol
