DS is 22 months old and have started thinking about switching from disposable to reuseable nappies but am not sure if it is a waste of time and money I reckon I'd probably get about a year atleast out of them as he doesn't seem anywhere near ready to potty train. Also does anyone know of any good ones and could you reccommend what I would need to start? Thank u

I would say get Mother-ease Sandy's because I found them easy to put on my wriggling toddler as you can use them like pull-ups which is great once they start to potty train.

As your ds is older you will probably be able to get away with having fewer nappies. Although if you are planning on having another baby at some point you'll get your money's worth eventually.

I would reccomend getting motherease airflow wraps because I found them the best and again you can use them pull up style.

I'm sure others will be along soon with more advice.

I bought one cheap-ish 6 pack of terry nappies and three (nature babies) wraps when dd was born and have used them occasionally (with disposables) since. I folded them when she was little, but now she is bigger they work as 'pre-folds', so I basically fold the terry inside the bottom of the wrap and then add a bit of fleecy liner or a degradable liner if she hasn't pooed yet (like chucking a towel under her bum). Then fasten the wrap around. Not fancy but cheap and does the job - espesh round the house. I chuck in with normal washing.

I have only really used them round the house - my philosophy is, it's one less disposable to chuck/buy. And somehow, only thinking about using them once a day makes you use them more...

Sure someone will have good advice re 'proper' reusables. Think you would get good money's worth - and you can sell them on too (if you don't have another!).

Thanks for that tutu and umlellala think will probably go for pull ups as he is older and very wriggly! here are so many out there and don't have a clue abouit any of them! Could any f you tell me if I could use normal detergent on the nappies as my son has eczema and have been using surcare for all his clothes

True, my dd is 2yo and will lie still for a nappy change - she has had several 'DON'T change my nappy' phases though (the ones where you have to actually hold them down and go 'sorry love but it needs to be done' - trick is to wait til they are still before you actually change their bum I think so they learn you mean business...)!

I find pull-ups harder on my wriggly baby, always end up tripping her up . Do you have a real nappy network near you? or a shop where you can look at them? Def think you should give reusables a go - it's v satisfying for some reason !

Think there is a baby shop nearby might have some to look at. You might have a point there actually I spose i have to pin him down now so it won't make any difference I guess. I always have to bribe my DS with a book or something :0

what ever you can find 2nd hand is a resoanble place to start. Dhs work e-mail-group frequently seems to have someone selling 2nd hand Mother ease one size.

surcare would be fine for washing nappies or soap nuts are recomended by lots of people. What sie is your son as his weight and build will make a difference on certain nappies. preolds are cheap and work well for some, motherease one size have worked well for me but were outgrown by one son before he was 2(he was and still is big).
i use the used nappy auction website and this week got 6 tots bots size 2 for £10.00 including delivery they are in lovely condition and fit alot of different shaped children. motherease wraps are often recommended as they tend to be bomb proof the xl wraps still fitted my sons age 4 at night. Also find out if you would be entitled to any nappy schemes in your area whereby they will help subsidise the cost of your nappies.
