Toddler bed or single ?

Son is 18 months and due second baby end of Feb.
I’m planning on moving him into a new bedroom and keeping his current nursery for new baby.
I’m planning on getting his new room ready in the next month or 2 and then gradually trying him in it so he has plenty of time to adjust. Realistically he doesn’t need to be out the nursery until the end of next summer though if it doesn’t go well at first.

My question is whether to buy a toddler size bed or a single bed (will probably get a floor bed) , I’m unsure how long they last in toddler beds so do I skip straight to a single? But will that be too big at first? Any advice.

If you'd go for a floor bed and the room suits a single (i.e, not a little box room), I'd go for that. We were given a toddler bed and so used that – they are quite long, 140 cm mattress, so they can be used for a good few years, but a single obviously for longer! I think the main advantage of a toddler bed (other than space in a very small room) is that they're low to the ground for climbing in and out and for when they fall out of bed – but a floor bed ticks all those boxes as well.

DS had a mid-rise bed with steps (not a ladder) at that age as it was more space efficient for us. Don’t count them out as some of the Stompa ones are really safe.

Single bed all the way. Will last him until he is at uni! Why buy something you will just have to replace in 2 years time.
