When to stop night time nappies

DC (4) is dry most nights, but maybe once every 3 or so weeks he will wake up with a wet ‘nappy’. He will get up in the morning and take himself to the toilet, but is quite a deep sleeper, and doesn’t wake up in the night on the occasions he does wet himself. He is currently in the night time pull ups and is quite independent but at what stage do I take him out of them, and just deal with the wet bed and changing it in the middle of the night?
he is such a deep sleeper that sometimes if he falls asleep in the car if we have been out in the evening, I am able to get him out of the car and in to bed without him waking. I’m not entirely convinced a damp bed would wake him and wouldn’t want him sleeping all night in it

When he's dry all the time, when you've done 3/6 months with no accidents.

If he’s dry most nights except once every 3 weeks, I’d definitely get rid of the nappies. Mine were quite a bit older (6/7), but we took them out of nappies after about a week ever being dry at night. There will be accidents for the first few months, but it’s no big deal. Just use a mattress cover/puppy pads and have clean sheets ready.

If he's not waking up then he's not yet producing the hormone he needs to wake up when he needs a wee.

I'd wait until he's reliably dry.
