14 months old pees through nappy every morning?

DS has been wearing Aldi nappies without much of a problem till recently. Almost every morning his nappy leaks, soaking through his clothes and sleepbag. It leaks during the day sometimes too, even after just an hour. We tried a size up (size 5) but didn't seem to make a difference so changed back to size 4. He still drinks a bottle of milk (150ml) before bed. Anyone's had similar experience and found a solution to it please? Thanks!

Think both of ours were a bit older, closer to 18 months when this kept happening. One thing that sometimes worked was reusable boosters inside a regular nappy. But sometimes they still leaked.

Ultimately the only thing that worked was limiting how much they drank past 5pm. But by then they'd lost interest in a bedtime feed long before this.

@2ofthebest thank you! I was also just reading on other threads that it could be due to tight clothes and his vest is a bit tight. Will try dressing him more loosely too

Have you tried pull up nappies?

It could be the beginning of bladder control and he is weeing less frequently but then weeing in larger quantities when he does go and the nappy can't keep up. This type of flooding happened to my ds recently. I love my reusable nappies and have just added boosters to stem the flow. Maybe reduce how much he drinks before bedtime? If there's a certain time of day the nappy leaks maybe try and change him then to avoid this.

Also, another thought. Does your ds wear vests and babygrows or does he have access to the nappy in the day? Sometimes they can fiddle in the nappy and then the wee comes up and out of the nappy rather than going down.

Stichintime · 31/10/2024 20:41

Sounds like the nappies are not absorbant enough. Try a different brand.

Thank you all for the advice! Will try all those and see if it works :)

No he can't fiddle with the nappy during the day as he's usually wearing quite a lot of layers. It definitely sounds like a lot of wee coming out all in one go, as he can be totally dry and then all wet after a few minutes... @underhedges

Have you tried a more absorbent nappy in the same size? So a 4+ rather than a 5.

No didn't even know there's such a thing lol as Aldi doesn't seem to have them. Which brand is good please? Thanks!

We use Asda nappies, the + versions for night time, never had any leaks. Briefly switched to Aldi nappies, and we had leaks almost every night! Switch brands.

Panda34 · 31/10/2024 20:57

Try pampers for night time, if I use the supermarket ones they leak at night. Pampers are by far the most absorbent

Aldi does the 4+ and 5+ nappies. We use them at night and mostly do the trick, far more absorbant than the regular nappies but they are quite thick and padded so we don't use them in the day time.

Just following on from my post, we had this with my 1 year old and 2yr 3month old simultaneously with Aldi nappies. I'm sure I've read somewhere that if they are cold in the night too, they are more likely to have very full nappies? Can't remember the reason though. Just a thought.

mumof1or2 · 31/10/2024 21:11

Use the pull ups rather than the nappies as they're way more absorbent. My son wears a size 5 Aldi pull up to bed with a size 6 one on top (a tip I was given on MN!) and I always make sure his willy is pointing downwards after I've put the first one on. No more leaks here!

ThatWarmJadeSeal · 31/10/2024 21:21

Kids start to more reliably sleep through the night at this age so you don't change them in the night. I found that with 2/4 of mine, there was an annoying window where they slept through the night but needed a nappy change or they'd leak.

Helpisonitswaydear · 31/10/2024 21:58

I limit to 3oz of liquid before bed and use pampers at night, usual nappies in daytime.

The plus versions are more absorbant, I've heard of some parents attaching a sanitary pad to the top inside the nappy for extra absorbency but never tried it personally!
