Hi everyone on Monday my son came down with a fever randomly no other cold or flu symptoms we are away on holiday in the Caribbean so I took him to the children's hospital they took a blood test to check for infections and said his bloods wasn't showing any bacterial infections just showing he had. Viral after that day his temp went by itself he was fine and happy until now all of a sudden his temp has raised not fever level he felt warm so I took the his temp and it was at 37.7 so rising I quickly gave him calpol I'm really worried we are leaving in a week time

I do remember a few days ago him playing with someone with a cold not sure if he just picked up that or it's a rebound from his fever he had Monday

Any tips thank you

What are you worried about OP, is there more to this? Are you worried it’s a tropical illness?

Kids get viral bugs all the time. If he’s fine in himself then what’s the worry? And if he has got something brewing, all you can do is prepare to treat it like any other viral bug until it passes. Hospital is for when it appears serious or can’t be managed at home…

I wouldn’t have given calpol if he is fine in himself and just slightly warm. A doctor explained to me that fevers (while alarming) as long as they aren’t at a dangerous temp obviously are “good” in that it’s the immune system doing it’s thing. The temperature is a harder environment for the virus to thrive. Medicating unnecessarily can lengthen the time it will all take to pass.

Obviously if he was unhappy, give the meds. Keep fluids up etc. But I don’t see the issue here if he is well in himself?

Treat the child and not the number - if he is feeling miserable and/or in pain give him Calpol and get medical advice if you think he needs it. But if he is ok in himself and just slightly warm I would just keep an eye on things and carry on as normal. A high temperature can be a good thing as the poster above said, the NHS advises that Calpol shouldn't be used purely to bring down a temperature in an otherwise symptoms free child.

Thank you guys for your tips but my concern is that he had a fever already and it went away since Monday and suddenly came back is this normal
