Outdoor assemblies in senior school

Hi,
So I was just wondering what everyone thinks of this as quite frankly I am a bit stunned! I have 2DC in senior school and after line up and registration in the playground the headteacher performs an outdoor assembly every morning using a huge megaphone whilst the children stand up listening for 20 minutes. Does this sound normal or acceptable? Apparently the megaphone is extremely loud! Seems hugely bizarre to me and I don't really want me child taking part in an outdoor assembly

@Herkisback1 - why on earth is it rude?? That is absolutely a valid reason. And in my experience school staff do not always go above and beyond - having school children standing in the freezing cold for an outdoor assembly whilst yelling into a megaphone in my opinion is not going above and beyond in having the children's best interests at heart

We always did a remembrance ceremony outside.

The school did not have an inside space large enough for the whole school.

Mostly you couldn't hear what was happening though apart from the last post and 2 mins silence.

I just worry about the kids hearing - my DS said because of where he stands in the line he is right by the loud megaphone and it hurts his ears. Rain and shine by all accounts

He really needs to wear ear plugs when he is near the megaphone as it will damage his hearing.

The school stands bonkers not to worry about the kids hearing.

The more I read about some schools, the more I'm grateful that the school I went to in the 1970s and '80s was so sensible.

Saying the staff can't be bothered is rude. It's nothing to do with staff being bothered or not. Teachers don't put out chairs.

Get your facts straight.

If the school wanted they could do it indoors on the floor. It's nothing to do with the staff.

@sprigatito It is important to sometimes collect together as a whole school community. It fosters community cohesion. Due to the constraints of our site we can't do it indoors. We don't do it if the weather is inclement. OFSTED thought it was a good solution. For the remainder we do break into indoor Key Stage assemblies.

@serendipity70 as my post says speakers use a microphone. Also see reply to @sprigatito.

We used to have whole school assemblies in December and July in the school sports hall. The caretakers put out the chairs on the covered floor.
Twice weekly we had year group assemblies in a dining room.
An outdoor assembly with a megaphone doesn’t seem pleasant.

@Hercisback1 - it really is not rude saying that teachers can't be bothered to put chairs out -and why on earth can't teachers put out chairs -they are certainly not Gods or royalty ffs! And my facts are straight lol - why would I make up what I have said?? Have you even heard yourself??
