Flu jab/spray for child - yes or no?

Evening everyone

My reception child has been offered the flu nasal spray at school, I’m 50/50 as to whether or not to give permission for it. I know the flu is horrible, but looking at death rates the risk seems very low, and surely it’s better to allow the body deal with it naturally and build immunity itself? Also the thought of him having it every single year seems a bit excessive. But then I know I’d never forgive myself if he got really ill from it.

I am not an antivaxer. He’s had all his required jabs. Just wondered what other people do / think?

Absolutely I did. I don't give a toss about statistics. Flu is horrendous and I don't want to catch it off a ruddy kid, never mind what it might do to a fit and healthy one.

Boggles my head that we're so privileged that we like to pick and choose this stuff in this country.

No.
The less chemicals in your body, the better.
They don't work anyway

A functioning body is a series of chemical processes and reactions.

My teens or myself have never had a flu jab. I’ve (thankfully) never had flu, I know that’s not to say I won’t ever get it but I’m not concerned by it. My teens have never had flu and I think if they got it they’d be young and fit enough to handle it.

Yes absolutely definitely get the flu jab and if you are able to please get the chicken pox vaccine as well.

Unfortunately because Covid jabs were completely unnecessarily pushed for children and young people when they were the least at risk section of society, there has been somewhat of a backlash against jabs and vaccines for which are absolutely of benefit to children and young people.

Just because the Covid jab was unnecessary it doesn't mean that all jabs and vaccines are.

Assuming you're in the UK, we don't have any 'required' jabs. The flu spray is no more or less mandatory than any of the baby jabs, so if you were fine with giving DC those then why not the flu one?

My child gets the flu jab every year despite many of those years dealing with a very strong needle phobia. She has asthma
so can’t get the spray and her doctor feels very strongly that the vaccine is a necessity. I have to agree given that a simple cold has landed us in a&e with doctors in working very fast more than once.

for healthier children, I appreciate the parents who get their child vaccinated. Herd immunity helps vulnerable classmates and family members. It doesn’t need to be your primary motivation, but if you are on the fence, perhaps it helps knowing that you are doing your part to keep other children safe.

My 3.5 year old got the flu last month and was sick for 2 full weeks - we ended up in hospital twice as couldn’t get her temperature down.

il never miss a flu vax again
