Extremely low sleep needs baby or is something wrong?

So a baby aged 3-4 months should sleep between 14 and 16 hours per day. I read that low sleep babies can sleep an hour, two shorter. Mine sleeps 8-10 hours per day, that's almost half of the recommended duration. He has wake windows of 9 hours and doesn't seem tired. Is this still normal? Yesterday he slept 8,5 hours in total (so in 24 hours).

I don't think it's solely due to sleep regression since he never slept any close to recommended duration. But if this continues he'll soon sleep less than an adult..

It's a long time ago now, but my 18yo was like this and I had exactly the same worries as you. Is he upset when he is awake too long? Mine dropped naps really early too, it was pretty full on and I was envious of others whose babies slept and slept. Turned out DD just never has needed much sleep and still doesn't. We did try a sleep clinic but it wasn't much help in the end. Don't forget, averages still have extremes at either end.

My DD is 4 months and the exact same. I spoke to the health visitor about it and she said it can be perfectly normal, as long as I’m following her cues and letting her sleep when she wants to. It’s so hard though isn’t it 😩

The worst is that he doesn't sleep at night at all, 80% of his sleep are day naps. How to cope when you breastfeed? I am about to ask my partner to take an unpaid leave. I'm totally exhausted. If we didn't have savings that would be quite of an emergency situation.

Sounds like his body clock has got a bit confused. I would do some googling to find out how to reset it and get him sleeping more at night, when the quality of sleep is likely to be better. You have my sympathies – DD wasn't a sleeper as a baby either (although in her case it was mostly due to silent reflux) and I nearly went mad. She's 6 now and sleeps 7.30pm to 8.30am most days, so there is hope!
