Has anyone deferred before? What happens financially?

Long story but my uni are very behind my decision to defer, and are totally for me re-starting in October, but I've had two terms student loan installments and my childcare grant. Do I have to pay all this back right away? Am really panicking!! Thanks

As I understand it, you don't have to pay any student loan back until you're earning, I redid one year and so ended up with 4yrs of loan to pay back. I would call slc and see if they will still pay your third installment if you're not actually studying atm.
I graduated 6yrs ago and haven't paid any back yet and am now sahm, we just have a panic every April to get the deferment form back in time!

You won't have to pay it back (not til you're working) - although I would contact your LEA direct about tuition fees - don't know if you're in the old or new system for fees but some LEAs will pay and some won't if you repeat. The University may have a cut off date for eligibility for repeat fees. I've deferred my third year twice now (dissertation deadline 3 weeks away- argh!) and the beginning of this year my £1100 fees were lost in the 'system', LEA saying they wouldn't pay and my Uni saying they hadn't recieved anything from the LEA. Nightmare but just keep on their cases and you'll be fine. Oh and I've always found my LEA much more helpful when it comes to financial matters than the SLC.
