Holiday and 4mo sleep regression

Just looking to hear from other mums who have had any experience! I’ve booked a holiday to Dubai when my baby will be 4mo+1 week…am I mental?! I’ve read so many scary things about sleep regression and really don’t want to ruin our first family holiday x

A long haul trip with such a young baby? Yes I would say mental. Definitely not relaxing. But who knows, you may have a fab time. Just don’t expect to stick to routines etc.

Easier to do a trip like that with a 4 month old than a toddler! Go for it!

Whatever age they are, a trip usually screws up their sleep/routine anyway. Just go with the flow, have a nice holiday and deal with it when you get back. Travel is much easier when they are still small

Not every baby has a 4 month sleep regression and it’s not always exactly 4 months either. Some may have a 3 month one or a 5 month one. I don’t think you can plan for these things so just go with it and enjoy your holiday.

My DS was in the four month sleep regression during our first holiday with him. It was only Devon though. My memories are that we just sort of got on with it - DH was off work and we just went with the flow. I breastfed so did the night wakes
but he was off work so took the baby in the morning so I could get a lie in. We still
had a very nice time and I hope you do too!
Also - many babies don’t have the regression at all.

TBH sleep regression was never a thing when my children were babies…good weeks and bad weeks depending on the baby.

Thanks all - I’m not worried about long haul as happy to keep him entertained but more so about the sleep! Our plan is to keep him on UK time for the trip (4 hrs ahead)

at the moment he’s a great sleeper, dropped night feeds at 10 weeks and generally sleeps 11-7 so just worried for what could be approaching but didn’t want to not do nice things ‘just in case’

It’s normal for sleep to go a bit tits up between 4-6 months (for both of mine it was more around 5 months). But you’ve had a very easy time of it if he’s sleeping through from 10 weeks. Realistically, a holiday with a 4 month old who wakes 1-2x a night will still be easier than with a 12 month old who is mobile.

That said, what do you actually expect to do in Dubai on holiday? A beach or pool holiday will not be easy unless you are trading off with baby and the heat will mean it will be tricky to spend a lot of time outside anyway. Walking around the malls, yes or inside the hotel. But it won’t be easy to spend the day at the pool or beach like the old days.

Don’t worry about something that might not happen. My DD was a good sleeper and wasn’t affected by a 4 month sleep regression. I still wouldn’t have been keen on a sun holiday at that age though as I would be always worrying about them getting too hot or sunburnt (obviously people have babies in hot countries but they probably don’t take them to the beach in the middle of the day).
