Toddler meal times - what's your schedule like?

Hi all, what time are your toddlers having breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper?

I know not all kids are the same but interested to hear how greatly your schedules differ, as sometimes I worry about ours and if we are doing things too early or too late in the day!

She generally eats when we eat. Doesn't do breakfast at the moment but it would be somewhere between 6.45-7.30, lunch is between 11.30-12.30 and dinner is between 5.30-6.30. time vary depending on when she wakes up, what time she has a nap and how late my partner is getting home from work

Overthebow · 17/10/2024 06:22

same as pp my DC eat when we eat so it’s always been breakfast at 7-8.30 depending on if it’s a nursery day as breakfast is there on those days, lunch around 12 and dinner 6ish. We have a baby now too and he eats at the same time as us too.

Honestly it's a blur. In nursery 5 days a week. Brackets are what we do at home.

630 (7) home breakfast, usually dry cereal or fruit
8: nursery breakfast: cereal and toast
930: fruit snack
(The above 2 get merged at home on weekends to about 9 and I do a more substantial snack)
1130 (12): lunch, hot meal at nursery.
330: tea (snack)
6: snack (tea)
7: warm milk if wanted.

Breakfast - offered when she gets up but doesn’t always want it. 2nd breakfast at nursery on nursery days.
Lunch - 11:30 or 12
Dinner - as a family between 6-6:30pm
No supper or desert but offered fruit after dinner and milk before bed at 7:30.

Also offer snacks mid morning and afternoon.

Yourethebeerthief · 17/10/2024 08:03

Breakfast when he wakes around 6:30/7am

Often a second breakfast around 8:30/9am
(Or snack at nursery on nursery days)

Lunch around 12/12:30

Sometimes a snack, especially if he's at nursery

Dinner at 4pm

Bed at 6pm (usually has a cup of milk before we brush his teeth)

Rough timings for toddler DS

Breakfast 7:30/8
Snack 10:30 or after first nap
Lunch 12:45
Tea with DD when she’s in from school 3:30
Supper 6

He’s still breastfed so does that off and on throughout the day, otherwise has water.

LoquaciousPineapple · 17/10/2024 08:34

My son is 3 now but has had this schedule since he was about 18 months

Breakfast - around 8:30. At weekends he has it around 7am as he has to be at swimming earlier.

Lunch - sometime between 11:30 and 12:30.

Dinner - sometime between 5:30 and 6:30.

We don't really do snacks, but if we do they're usually roughly halfway between meals. Afternoon snack can be a bit more substantial as it's a longer time between lunch and dinner. He never really says he's hungry though!

reabies · 17/10/2024 09:14

DS is 2.5.

7am - cup of milk
8.30-9.30 - breakfast. Likely closer to 8.30 at nursery and 9.30 at home
10ish - snack
11.30-12.30 lunch. Again closer to 11.30 at nursery and 12.30 at home
2.30ish snack
4.30-5.30 - dinner. As above, earlier at nursery, later at home
6.30pm - cup of milk before bed

On weekends we are a bit more lax, especially if out and about. If he wants some food we generally give it unless we know lunch/dinner is happening imminently.

UnravellingTheWorld · 17/10/2024 09:46

Breakfast - 7:30-8am
Lunch - noon
Dinner - aim for 5:30 but realistically 6pm

We don't do supper because dinner is so late. We do sometimes have an afternoon snack, but it's not really necessary because he eats so much at mealtimes. I'm also VERY flexible with lunch times since we lost the nap

NuffSaidSam · 17/10/2024 09:51

Breakfast - 7am

Snack - 9am

Lunch - 11:30am (but in reality just grazes constantly from 9am-12pm)

Snack - 2:30/3pm

Dinner - 4:45/5pm

Just do what works for your kids and your schedule.

Grepes · 17/10/2024 09:52

Breakfast 0800
Hot lunch 1145
Hot dinner 1530
Cold plate when they get home (cheese, cucumber, grapes, carrot) 1800

Weekends are very different as we are all about, good times vary in what we are doing that day.

My daughter is about to turn 1. She has:

Milk 7am
Breakfast offered around 8am (usually refused but I'm hoping this will change once she is off formula)
Lunch 1pm if at home, if at childminder's then 12pm
Dinner 6pm
Milk 7pm

My youngest is 3. We’re in Canada, so culturally a bit different from the UK (the things I read here about putting kids to bed before 7:30pm are kind of wild to me!)

7:30am - porridge with maple syrup
10am - fruit and/or cheese
12pm - lunch at daycare (they have incredible food - poached salmon, quinoa salads, ratatouille… they take their food very seriously!)
3pm - crackers and hummus or similar
5:30pm - apple slices on the way to the park after daycare. Sometimes he also picks through his older siblings’ lunchbox leftovers
7pm - family dinner

Just interested in what you mean. Surely your child just goes to bed when they need to? My 3 year old is barely holding his head up by half 5. He sleeps 6-7.

Bunny2006 · 17/10/2024 20:55

We eat together, 20 month old:
7.30-8am (whenever wakes up) - breakfast
11.30am ish depending on plans - lunch
Nap
3-4pm sometimes a light snack since I moved lunch before the nap
5.30pm - 6.30pm - tea depending on plans
Cup of cows milk before bed

LifesABeachx · 17/10/2024 21:13

So my toddler still likes milk whenever she wakes up which is about 7-8am. Breakfast 9-9.30, lunch 12:30-13:00 and dinner 16:30-17:00. Snack about 18:00 and milk again 18:30.
I offer snacks inbetween this but that varies on the day & how much she's had to eat.
nursery schedule is pretty much the same but a light breakfast earlier & toast with fruit at nursery for a snack.
