Hi all,

My 4yo DS has been potty trained since 2, but every so often he has a week or two where he wets himself at least once a day, sometimes two or three times.

I thought he’d finally grown out of it as he’s not had a spell for a few months but it’s started happening again this last week.

I was never too bothered at nursery but now he’s at school I’m more embarrassed for him and I just don’t know how to help him, any tips? I also feel like the teachers will be judging me for doing a terrible job at toilet training but honestly he’s fine for months then this happens.

I have considered UTIs but he has no temp or any other sign.

Any advice welcome!

Could be constipation, especially if it comes and goes. A backlog of poo will push down on the bladder:

Oh constipation is a great shout! He’s been on purposely withholding poo at school so I wonder if that’s it

My toilet trained daughter has had a few accidents since starting school. She soiled herself 3 days in a row at after-school club. On the third day we managed to get it out of her that there were bigger children playing near the toilets so she didn't want to go past them.
Her body has switched to going during the school day which she seems more comfortable with.
Her key worker at the after-school club is keeping an eye on her and prompting going to the toilet. So she doesn't have to always reach out. She's very reserved around new people.

She is also very small and the toilet at the after school is child size rather than toddler sized so is a bit big for her so that's a blocker. They have a seat and a stool for her. The toilets for her classroom are smaller

Constipation due to witholding. Very common. What is the issue with the school toilets? There will be a reason he won't or can't use them.

He said he doesn’t like going for a poo at school because he doesn’t like wiping his own bum (something we are working in!) so I’m wondering if that’s now causing the bladder issues, mind you he had these phases at pre school every so often too and as far as I’m aware he didn’t have any issues using the toilets there.
