16-month old can't stand alone or walk

At what point do I panic?

Can crawl, pull to stand and cruise well. But can't stand without holding on and if I hold her hands she tries to walk but is v wobbly on her feet. Can walk (awkwardly!) while holding onto her walker.

Normal at this age? Or..not? Last one in the NCT group to walk (also last to crawl etc!). And panic is once again beginning to set in...

My daughter has low muscle tone (hypotonia) and a bit of hypermobility. We don’t yet know the cause of her hypotonia but it can be linked to genetic conditions or sometimes no cause is found. We are currently waiting for the results of genetic testing.

Fingers crossed for you!

Have you tried Standing her up and putting something in each of her hands? For some reason, I think it helps them balance

I haven’t! I will try this - thank you!

I really wouldn't worry too much - as long as she's making progress, she will get there in her own time. If she's still not walking by 18 months you could ask for a referral to physio, just for reassurance. My girl didnt even crawl until 14 months!

Ps I am also terrible at sport and was last in every race at school! Must be genetic..

Thanks for your reassurance! Ha yes I was a really late walker and never crawled so I’m sure genetics are playing a part!

Bless her heart. I'm sure she is fine. A relative of mine didn't walk until 18 months and one of her children was exactly the same. They grew up quite normal, bright and active, had good jobs. However they were both quite heavy when they were babies. I was a fat baby and didn't walk too soon either. That may have something to do with it.

As long as your daughter is reaching her milestones in other ways and your doctor is happy with her, don't worry.

PS: I googled and found this from the NIH, I hope it is reassuring. She will be fine!
"Yes, a baby's weight can influence when they start to walk, as heavier or taller babies may take longer to develop the muscle strength and coordination needed to support their bodies and balance effectively. Overweight infants have been shown to start walking at older ages than slimmer infants. This is because it takes more strength to control and move a larger body, and the added weight can create additional biomechanical constraints on the infant's developing motor skills." and :
From the BBC:
"The normal age range for a baby to start walking independently is between 10 to 18 months, with the average age being around 14 months. However, every child develops at their own pace, and it's considered a normal developmental milestone for most children to be walking by 18 months."
