Newborn still won’t sleep unless held / rocked

Our 6 week old newborn still won’t settle z/ stay asleep unless held or moving (e.g in pram on a walk.

We have tried loads of things (hot water bottle in crib first, hand on baby when she wakes to try and settle her back to sleep).

we ended up getting a second hand snoo cot for night time which has motion so this helps her stay asleep for a couple hours at a time.

Is this something they naturally grow out of after the fourth trimester ?

is it a case of meeting her needs now by holding her as much as possible in the day until she naturally is more secure and able to settle herself or keep trying to get her to settle independently now?

if we try to put her down after 20 mins asleep on us she’ll wake within another 20 minutes and then needs comfort feeding and takes a while to settle again and I want to make sure she gets enough sleep too!

thanks xx

If you have a cling on baby then you have a cling on baby. Yours is still very new.

Basically the answer is yes hold/use a sling etc. Cosleep if you can do so safely. Let your housework/cooking/washing standards slip. Or pay for this to be done/get someone to help you. Do what you have to do to get through the day/night.
Share the load - me and my partner did ' split shifts' when it came to evening/night care. If we got four hours sleep each then we could function the next day.
I'm sure some babies learn very quickly how to self sooth, but ours didn't and we didn't want to sleep train/cry it out so our sleep patterns were very disrupted for a loooooong time. I do find it's a bit like childbirth and you forget actually how bad it was in the beginning ...

Have you got a rocket?

Obviously lots of cuddles is lovely but sometimes ghoul want to get a few things done or have a cuppa - id use a rocket for those times at the money to give you a break and make sure they have enough sleep if that is your concern

Completely normal. My first didn't sleep without being on me or moving for about 8 months. Second was sleeping happily in her next to me from two weeks. All babies are different, be kind to yourself.
