Chicken pox - what can i do with dd?

My dd has come out with chicken pox today and the thought of being stuck in the house for a week or so fills me with fear! am i allowed to go out anywhere? to the shops? visit relatives? to the park? obv i will keep her away from other children, nursery, m&t etc but is the chance of catching it in a shop when she is in her pushchair high? i really dont want to infect anyone else.
If i am stuck in what can i do with her? she has a very short attention span and flits from one thing to the next! any ideas of fun activities that will pass the days!

She's 20months btw!

Thanks!

you can visit people in their houses

you shouldn't take her to shops or park until her lesions are scabbed over

baths run through a sock with a handful of porridge oats is very soothing (more so than calamine IME)

my dd1 had it at xmas so had to see family (nephew came out with it christmas night so preinfected him )

dd2 got it 10 days later, the day before her 1st birthday so her party reduced in numbers to children who already had c pox.

DD1 was back at preschool so when DD2 had it we went to small park where noone was around and lots of feeding the ducks, we had no choice but to go food shopping one day but think I left it till they had started scabbing over.

If you need to put cream on buy aquaeous calamine lotion much easier to apply and soothing, piriton worked fantastically for DD1 (she was 3.4 at the time) but made DD2 hyper and she was awake half the night.

DD has just had the pox, and I took her for walks and to the park to play ball/run around. But we stayed away from play areas and went when there were no other children around.

Apart from that we just did loads of cool things at home.. planted cress, made cakes, etc.

Fresh air in the garden and do some weeding whilst there.
Pick some flowers.
Make some buns, bread or a cake.
Painting.
Build a den.
Let her help you match socks...a surprising hit in the BMS house.
Watch some telly!
Read stories
Cbeebies website

I second the porridge oats in a sock in the bath water - reduces the itching significantly.

Aqueous calamine lotion is also good.

Both my DC had it one after the other so we didn't really leave the house for a couple of weeks...a joyful time

Avoid anywhere with lots of children or pregnant women.

Oh and chocolate for you both for when it is really not fun anymore.

Hope she is better soon

if she's had shingles, that means she's previously had CP so should be immune to it.

exposure to chickenpox virus can't activate shingles

but I'd check with anyone you're planning to visit as a common courtesy

breakfast in bed. My son used to (at 18 months) and still (at 4) does love it. I make a tray and then we sit in my bed watching tv. Then we used to have a bath together. Now he sits and talks to me while I have a bath!

Then put on the tv and make a nice lunch and just spend the day drawing, playdoe and lazing around till bed. Sounds really boring but not much to do with an ill child who can't leave the house and my son loves the not rushing. In fact we have days like that about once a month even when he's not ill (only not playdoe anymore)
