Aldi Mamia newborn nappies - why are they leaking so much?!

For the first ten days or so they were great for DS, but for the last ten days we've been getting at least one leak a day. But everyone raves about them! Are we missing something?

I always preferred Lidl nappies to Aldi, and the one packet of Pampers I used were incredibly leaky. I decided that babies must pee differently and combined with their different shaped bodies I just found the brand that worked for me and ignored the rest!

I found that Aldi nappies leaked like mad too. We use Sainsburys nappies now and very rarely have any leaks with them.

He might be ready for the next size up already?
But I agree with PP, find the ones that work best for your baby because they're all different shapes. I liked Tesco nappies more than Aldi, and pampers were best for my youngest unfortunately!

Wrong size?

Fiftycents · 09/10/2024 22:28

I think they are rubbish to be honest, they’re not absorbent enough for my baby. We find Tesco best followed by Asda then Lidl, Sainsbury’s come up really small. I also like Boots nappies but they’re a bit more expensive. A good compromise between pampers prices and supermarket prices though. But nappies seem different for every baby, I got one pack from each supermarket near us when dd was born and tried them all.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 09/10/2024 22:30

Wrong size. Mine was out of the size 1 nappies in under a week. Usually (not always) a leak around leg is too big, out the top is too small.

Once we moved up leaks stopped. Also, brands are between sizes. Pampers for example is bigger than aldi, so I'd find that sometimes moving up an aldi size meant leg leaks as too big. We'd use the pampers which was essentially size between them for a couple weeks (basically a pack or two) then he'd be right size for the aldi pack size up.

Pop a vest extender on and see if you still get leaks. When the vest pulls the nappy up against the body, it gets compressed and leaks.

WhatMe123 · 09/10/2024 22:35

Will need the bigger size I'd say op 😁

ExpectantEs · 09/10/2024 22:36

I enjoyed size 1 in the Mamia Aldi nappies, but the size 2 have been awful. They had weird sizes and DD has a leak every night without fail - we never had an issue with the size 1! One of my friends also said she didn't enjoy the size 2's of the Mamia?! Strange

I've started using Pampers and enjoying them much more.

For me the tapes were rubbish so there was leakage everywhere. Loved Lidl or Tesco nappies

snackprovidersupreme · 09/10/2024 22:37

As soon as nappies leak regularly, it's time to go up a size. It's not just the actual size but the capacity of the nappy. I wish someone had told me this!

ColdinNovember · 09/10/2024 22:38

I don’t think any nappy is infallible to leaks and one per day at newborn is not bad. Sometimes they just can’t contain a big wee or poo.

Cantgetausername87 · 09/10/2024 22:43

Another vote for sizing up my LO wasn't in newborn long at all. It may also be the vest getting too small as this causes leaks as I presses the nappy in.
I'd check that before changing brands, I have always used aldi nappies without issue (and so much cheaper!)
