Hi

I need advice my daughter is 3 months (14 weeks) she's quite a greedy baby bless her, she could drink 7 ounces if I gave it to her and in my eyes that is quite a lot of milk.

My question is can I give her the cow and gate hungry milk?

How many feeds is she having in 24 hours? I don’t think 7oz is excessive at 14weeks unless she is having that much every 2 hours or something. I was always told not to bother with the hungry baby milk and just to give more normal formula milk as needed.

She has about 7 6 ounce bottles between 7am and 11pm

If she's finishing each bottle then add an extra ounce to each. Why can't you give her the amount she wants in a bottle?

Hungry milk can cause constipation as its harder to digest as it more predominantly casein based rather than whey based like first milk

I have been but my health visiting said to try the hungry milk because 7 ounces was a bit too much so I just wanted peoples advice on it

I'd disagree with the hv and try a larger amount of the first milk. There's no guarantee the other milk will make any difference and you risk making her constipated too. I'd maybe try hungry milk if she was finishing full bottles of milk and was still looking for more.

She does sometimes look for more milk when she's finished her bottle maybe I'll ask again with the health visitor

Up her to 7oz if that’s what she needs. She might either go a bit longer between feeds or takes the full 7 at some feeds and a bit less at others. Or she might just be growing and need the extra milk. Follow your baby.

@MintTwirl

I am following her but just wanted a bit of advice as I am a first time mum that's all

Definitely not hungry milk, it contains fillers to slow down digestion. What possible good can come from that for a baby who needs to grow at lightening speed?

Try reducing time between feeds if more than 7oz makes you uncomfortable. For what it's worth, my cmpa severe reflux first baby took until he was 2 to take more than 3.5oz in a sitting... If the milk is staying down and baby is happy, then go for it :)

There's so much to learn first time round, you're doing great!

I did think that about the milk but thank you for the advice! It's hard knowing what's best for her, It's the only the past month or so she's been like this and downing her 6 ounce bottles and still crying for more after. She cries for her milk during the day every 3 hours even if she's had a 7 ounce bottle before.

She's really good during the night and sleeps through the night and has done at only 5 days old and we had to set alarms to feed her ( I know lucky we are )

Sleeps through the night, wow! See, happy, healthy baby :) Needs to have a word with my almost 6 year old....

They have growth spurts here there and everywhere when they're tiny, so the milk volumes may go down in between. Responsive feeding is what's recommended these days I think, for healthy babies anyway :) And no one is average anyway.

Haha we are very lucky, but I am sure her sleep pattern will change as she gets older so we are making the most of the sleep lol. Did yours sleep when they were babies

I was always told by NCT/HV/GP that anything other than first formula is a marketing strategy or not any good for the babies... agree with PP stick with the original stuff!

Blessedbethefruitz · 07/10/2024 20:53

@Chelseaaaaa The first was very poorly and underweight and did not really sleep at night, just screamed and vomited. Excellent napper though. The second slept fine provided she was latched on...
