How do you get toddler to nap in friend/family home?

Wondering if I’m missing a trick!

Usually when I can plan things on my schedule, I do my toddler’s nap(s) at home and go out when she is awake.

When we go out to a friend/family house, I prefer to go after the nap but it’s a bit restrictive. I would prefer to arrive before nap and do the nap there….

Wondering if this is just part of it and you kind of have to plan socialising around the nap?

She doesn’t sleep well in sling/pram. Wondering how others manage it when visiting other homes (that don’t have a cot!)

My first was pretty high sleep needs so needed decent naps so we took the whole shebang - travel cot, blackout blinds, sleeping bag, monitor. Always looked like we were moving in when unloaded it all for the day 😂 that was for visiting houses anyway, if out and about in afternoon then would let her sleep in for first nap and then she could cope with a short one in pram on the go. She didn't completely drop her nap on weekends until nearly 3.5y so was pretty restrictive otherwise. She did start napping in car finally at the end though so that helped tide her over.

DS1 was a fantastic napper in a cot, and so I took a travel cot with me at it was worth the faff of setting it up to have two hours of adult conversation! DS2 is a rubbish napper at the best of times so I accept a poor sling/pram/ just on me nap

She was a bit of a nightmare when overtired so the faff made our lives easier overall though.

Neither of mine would ever have slept at some random house. A walk in the pushchair and we could park them at a cafe or in the garden. Otherwise, they slept on the way there or back in the car.

Thanks!! Somehow I hadn’t thought of the travel cot option! I’ll have a look at getting one, given naps aren’t going away any time soon.

my little one is high sleep needs too and everything goes a lot more smoothly if she’s well rested!
